Yay! By all that's holy, I hope that everybody reads this one. There are some things that drive me right around the bend...and the misuse of these words is at the top of the list.
For those of us whose mother tongue is English, there's no excuse for using the wrong word in the right place; for those of you whose mother tongue isn't English, it's not likely that you'll use them incorrectly anyway because you probably learned the difference when learning the language.
That doesn't say much for the natives, does it? Especially the natives with a post-secondary education.

I know someone who uses at least one of those words incorrectly on a daily basis. It's agony just reading through his e-mails. Thanx for the link, meghn. I think I'm going to print & frame that and give it to him to place close to his computer.

**blushing** I think I have spelled definitely wrong on numerous occasions. The ones that really mess me up, though are the ones with two consonants. Like "occasion" - I usually spell it "occassion" when I go too fast. Or "embarrassed" I confuse with occasion's spelling and spell it with one "s".

Gee, could you find another one that explains the use of the apostrophe? There are people who seem to think that any plural word ending with an "s" requires an apostrophe. Arg! Another nails-scratching-blackboard annoyance: "should of" or "would of" or "could of" instead of "should have" or "would have" or "could have"...what's with the "of"? Okay, I need to get off this soapbox

I deliberately mispelled those words on the MSN boards so that I wouldn't get bleeped.

Wut wo, SuziQ ;D I once left the "t" out of assets and didn't discover it until the letter was already in the mail! Not good But those are just typos, not misspellings or misuse. It's not like we're too dumb to spell correctly, merely uncoordinated

when we worked at the printing co, sis was typing bills of lading. You cannot use whiteout on them, only XXXXXXX if you make a mistake. Sis typed one that appeared to be going to Tampax, FL ;D she voided it & started over

Oh please, I have a post graduate education and if it wasn't for spell check, I wouldn't be able to spell my own name.
I have other talents.

I didn't even start to learn to spell until I was 50 and they invented spell check. Some people have a talent for it and some don't.

So glad lose and loose made the list. I want to lose my lunch and let loose with a few well-place slaps to the head every time I see those two used incorrectly.
