GRRRRR! Sorry to hear it - I hate it when that happens. Must be especially hard because of situation with DW job hunting too. Yep it sucks! Now I am hoping to get a Worcester since that will reduce my commute and my wife will be close to the train station if she has to go into Boston (so save $$$). Also sucks because the place we like only have 1 apartment available and that could be gone any day and back to square 1. She applied for about 5-6 positions so far and still applying, hoping she start the interview process pretty soon and lands a job. We are even contemplating her getting a job there and I don't... Will suck!

I worked HR while in grad school, and I was told that you generally don't tell the other applicants that a job has been filled. Or if you do, you tell them several weeks after the successful applicant has started.
The reasoning is that you don't want to tell someone that they were "second best" and then have to turn around and offer them the position if it doesn't work out with the originally successful applicant. Plus, they really want to limit their liability so the only response most of them would give you is that you were a great applicant among many great applicants, and you are encouraged to apply again if it seems a position matches your qualifications. But how could your company really tell you that when they still have open positions to fill?
You are looking at it from the perspective of a job seeker. Look at it from the perspective of your employer and you will be less eager/anxious about this process.

Look at it from the perspective of your employer and you will be less eager/anxious about this process. That is all good if everyone was from outside the company. But we all work for the same company and we all knew who applied and who were being interviewed. So basically by postin the old position of one of the applicants, they were basically telling us that one the position has been filled without even picking up the phone. Ex:X works in store A and applied for position in store B. Gets interviewed in store B on Friday and on Monday her position in store A is posted on the company website. So either she got fired or she got the position in store B. So yes, they may not have called to tell us, but is was not a secret. By posting it, everyone got the message.

Sound like you are putting the cart in front of the horse Maybe I am, I was never one to follow traditional norms. Sometimes putting the cart in front of the horse give you the extra push you nedd to actually get the darn horse.

I prefer my carts pulled by caribou.
I too am waiting to hear about a slot I applied for. It is frustrating. Two weeks will pass quickly enough. Hell, two YEARS will pass quickly enough if you aren't careful.
