That is so awesome! You guys are the most adorable couple. It was obvious that you are really in love with each other. (Her DF is a cutie!)

Buying a house that will cost you more than the YM approved percentage of your income or b) Buying the house even though your bid is greater than the appraisal Buying a big flat screen TV even though you think you will get laid off in the next few months? ETA: Crap Mid won already?

Congratulations. And, just how non-YM approved is this wedding going to be? Will you be paying it off about the time you have grandchildren?

Oh, goody. Is it gonna be a blow-out wedding with all the trimmings that will cost the same as buying a home? And are you gonna finance the whole thing instead of paying with cash? Congrats! ETA: I guess we were posting at the same time. Using your savings? OMG! Do you have a fully-funded EF? Oh, WTE...go ahead and spend and have fun doing it.

Here's a YM approved wedding tip for ya:
Go get your most recent credit card statement. It should have a little box stating your credit limit. Then deduct whatever your current credit card balance is from that number.
The resulting number is your wedding budget.
Don't be afraid to go into debt! It is your VERY SPECIAL DAY!!! You deserve it!!

Also, be sure to have at least 10 bridesmaids and require a week of planned activities revolving around you that will cost each of them in excess of $1,000.
That is your right, nay, your duty as a bride. ;D

Um, hello, it's her wedding. I think she can spring for Denny's.

Lets see.......the money she saves by going to McD and not Dennys can be invested at 11% which then will end up being 10 million in 12 years. See the ROI? She can even buy rentals with that much money!!!

Congrats CarolinaKat! I forget half of the YM do nots because as long as you are reasonable, who cares? I don't think God is going to hand out medals for extreme frugality or for buying reasonable cars when you enter heaven.

Proposal story for Firebird:
He kept insisting that we go out to lunch. I did not feel like going out to lunch and wanted to go back to sleep. But then he convinced me to go because we needed food for the doggie, so i reluctantly agree to go. Well we go to the resturant where we had our first date (and were we go all the time because it's our favorite place) and I got distracted watching the olympics on TV. Then I turn around and he's down on the floor on one knee with a ring.
Me: What are you doing down there on the floor? DF: Can't I ask you to marry me? Me: Of course I'll marry you silly!
He ended up getting me a ring that I had liked when we were looking at rings a few weeks ago, its got three blue diamonds surronded by tiny white diamonds. Very non-traditional, but very pretty and very me. Although a couple of people have checked to make sure that it IS in fact an engagement ring!

Please, please, please tell me that you're going into debt for the wedding, or are going to turn into bridezilla and want your parents and future in-laws to spend all their retirement savings on the wedding- and that you will want to dictate to them what they can and cannot wear... Because if you're your reasonable, wonderful self, with a wedding you can afford, etc, then it's not really not YM approved... But no matter what way you do it, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
