By now, most of you have probably noticed the lack of ads on this site. Right now, this is thanks to Virgil and mmhmm, who both purchased ad free credits for the board. I plan to purchase some credits as well, and thought others might also be interested. If you are, there is a link at the bottom of the board that says "click here to make this board ad free". You can purchase a minimum of 7 credits for $7, which is good for 50,000 page views. How long does that last? During the week, about 24 hrs. Here's a screen shot of our activity over the last week. Saturdays and Sundays are lower traffic days, averaging 28-29K pages views a day. Weekdays are usually over 50K, unless there's a holiday in there. Anyway, anyone who wishes to purchase credits, great. It will be very much appreciated. However, it is definitely not required!! If we run out of credits and have ads again, at least you'll know why. haha.

I forgot to say it before, so Thank you to Virgil, Mmhmm and Moon for making our board ad free.

Don't fell guilty, Thyme. That's not the purpose of the thread. I only wanted to give people a frame of reference in terms of board traffic.
Oh and one other thing- if you are viewing as a guest (not logged in), you will still see ads. The ad free is only for logged in members.

I've gotten so used to ignoring them that I didn't realize they were gone until I read this. Thanks to both of you though, that's really awesome.

First order of business, Thank you Virgil and MMhmm, and Moon!
Second order - Yes I did notice no ads and it's so worth it for a few bucks not to be pestered. However, it appears the credits don't roll over? How does it work (I did read the little blurb). If several of us ante up for one month and don't use all the credits do they get lost at the end of the month? Is there somewhere we can go to see how many credits the board has so we know if more needs to be purchased?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

The lack of ads is appreciated. Some of them have so much flash, they literally give me a seizure headache, and I have to navigate away from the page, or turn off Proboards for awhile. Interesting that we have limits on our avatars, but Proboards can put up ads that hurt.

How it works is that all the credits are combined into a "bank", so to speak. I take them from there and apply as necessary to a specific month. If I overestimate need towards the end of a month, yes, we'd lose some. I prefer to play it safe, which is why we did have ads again st the end of july for a bit. I didn't want to use 7 credits for a half a day when we wouldn't have used them all. If you're ever curious about how many credits we have and how many we've used, all you have to do is ask and I can tell you. sent from my mobile addiction

Moon, Viurgil or Mmhmm, not to sound like a big baby but is there a way to buy the credits with paypal?
I don't have a google wallet thingy account and I really don't want one. If I could send the $ to one of you via paypal I that would also be great!

There isn't a way to do it via paypal, unfortunately. I had another poster PM me that they did not use cards online anymore and asked if they could send me a check. I told them, yes.. technically you could.. but it would be hard for me to prove that i used the funds for what was intended and i never want that to be questioned. I don't ever want people to think I profit from this board. I do not, in any way.
It doesn't appear that you can transfer money between paypal and google wallet either, unfortunately.

OMG!!! I hadn't even realized the ads were gone. Kind of like when a toothache stops. Thanks MM, Virgil and Moon. I don't see how or where to purchase them. There is a link at the bottom of the page that says Click Here to Make this Board Ad Free (or you can click this one). It goes through Google Wallet, if you have a google account. That's currently the only way to do it.

I too was hesitant to use the Google Wallet since I knew nothing about it. What I finally did was use a low limit card I have.

I only have one card and it's not a low limit. I also had my number and card swapped out recently because somebody tried to use it. USAA caught it because apparently my card # was found by computer and they didn't have my address. But my offer still stands so if mmhmm or Virgil wouldn't mind giving me a P.O. Box address I'd be happy to send them the money. In hindsight, since Moon is the head honcho here, that does make sense to avoid any problems that could come up. Sammy! I can give you the money and then maybe you could do it on my behalf? No pressure.

Only fair to note that donating does not guarantee we shall be "loony-free" in addition to ad free.

If you really want to start making money you should have each sub-board donate monthly and whatever board kicks in the least gets MU as a moderator the following month. You'll turn this board into a profit machine in no time! I'm only asking for a measly 5% cut of the profits since it was my idea. You're welcome.
