Hey SL!!! Is our friendship warm or true passion on fire? If you have to ask, then you really don't know me at all. It's kinda like asking "Was it as good for you as it was for me?" ;D LMAO!! WE know the answer to both. I just wanted tallguy to know you don't need new friends.

I think TG was actually hinting that he should be my friend - to test the warm vs fire theory.

So... your signature block is a quote by a fictional character who has a high opinion of herself and a low opinion of you (you being a part of "everyone else")? I propose for your signature block: "When I see a piece of gum in the street, I... I just want to... I want to pick it up and chew it. I want to chew that gum. Even if there's bugs and parasites crawling all over it, I... I just want... to chew that gum." Consider: 1. It's approximately as nutty as your current signature. 2. It's approximately as self-deprecating as your current signature. 3. It's easier to identify as pants-on-head crazy. The reference to Daria is rather obscure, you understand. In short, it possesses all the same qualities as your current sig block while lacking all of the tiresome subtlety. Think about it.

You should do the honourable thing and set your signature back to what you had originally.
You were the first to use an angry statement as a signature. It proves you value Firebird's opinion—or at least are deeply affected by it. Enough that you'd go out of your way to flaunt your contempt for a statement she made well over a week ago.
What makes this truly ironic is that your dispute with her was about good parenting. I don't know what age your children are (or hers), but suppose they visit the board and ask you why your signature is a woman swearing at you. What will you tell them? That daddy had a grown-up argument with a lady who disagreed with him, so he's wearing her insults as a badge of honour?
I have, on occasion, regretted some of the things I've said on the board—either because they were misinterpreted, or hasty, or poorly thought out. Posters have shown me the courtesy of not prostituting my comments out in their signature blocks. You should show Firebird the same courtesy, regardless of whether she chooses to reciprocate. And I think you'd do well by each other to apologize briefly and sincerely in private. You're both intelligent, sensible adults.

Whoa. That's not what happened at all. We never actually called each other any names in anger or during the discussion. As soon as it started getting a bit heated we exchanged a couple private messages, totally civil, where I explained that half the things I was saying that she was mad about were purposely obnoxious because I couldn't believe how upset some of the other folks posting on that thread were getting. Anyway, the asshole comments were more of an inside joke that came out of that, not something we actually yelled at each other while arguing or whatever.
Firebird's kid is still in the womb, so she has a while yet before she's got to worry about explaining her signature block. Mine are old enough that I can explain that daddy was being a judgmental asshole, but I was doing it ironically to try and point out how ridiculous the thread was getting and kept the quote as a souvenir from a friend who was in on the joke. Eventually.

I guess this is what I get for using an inside joke in a public forum.

People have the right to say what they want... and should exercise that right while keeping in mind that their statements can be quoted.
As for "PM"ing via a message board... some moderators are priveleged with the ability to monitor personal messages sent via their message board. Whether or not they may abuse that privilege, unscrupulously, with impunity... is a gamble.

Being coveted is over-rated. I mean sure, it was cute at first. But that chick be crazy and I finally had to get a restraining order. I was a little sad when she killed herself though. Not over me and the restraining order, mind you. It happened several years later. Still, a little sad.

Consider this your notice then that the tongue-in-cheek nature of the comment isn't evident to the layperson. Your parenting argument certainly seemed genuine. When I initially visited the thread, it was because 38 of the 50 "most recent posts" accessible from the home page were Ms. Firebird and yourself exchanging less than pleasant words. I am aware that Firebird's final comment came with a ' ' attached.

PMs cannot be read by administration on ProBoards. Try another conspiracy. I'm sure there's one somewhere that will fit the bill.

Let's just say there were several PM's between the two of us that would have cast a different light on the thread of they were public. We're only pretend archenemies. Although I do plan to put strychnine in the guacamole if she shows up for my brewfest. Muahahahahahahhahaha
Oh, that's a secret. Don't tell her.

Anyone with admin privileges could theoretically install a script that BCC'd all PMs to a back end server. That said, such a script would be user-detectable (i.e. if a poster knew what he/she was doing, he/she could easily detect the presence of such a script.) If Mr. Perignon wants to be paranoid about something, let it be the fact that all communication to and from Proboards' servers is unsecured. Meaning that any server or router out of the dozens between his computer and Proboards can sample the content of anything he reads, posts, or PM's with the greatest of ease, as can his ISP, and (theoretically) any of the telecom companies responsible for data transport. Why anyone would give a rat's patoot about the content of his PMs is beyond my ken.

Yes, Virgil, a script could be installed. I've worked boards in the past where PMs could be read. They cannot be read on this board and are not made readable by ProBoards. To infer they are readable by administration is to put this board at risk, IMO. People are made uncomfortable if they feel their private communications aren't private. I don't blame them! It's one thing to realize your input could be sampled by servers, routers, your ISP or a telecom company. It's quite another to be afraid it can be sampled by the people with whom you're posting at the moment.

If it's any consolation, I routinely monitor my network traffic to see where data is coming and going. A BCC script would stick out like a sore thumb, and I've never once observed any untoward traffic on NMSNM.
As Moon has posted publicly, she specifically tracks the board analytics. Nearly all superadmins do. So too do Proboards, Google, and various advertisers.
None of us have ever or will have access to the content of any personal correspondence, or even a record of correspondence having taken place.

Sure relax...PMs can't be read by admin on these boards... Not that I have many....or even send them that often.

But post it on the board and you WILL be banned - that's in the CoC.
