Moran: GOP won in 2010 because 'a lot of people' don't want black presidentBy Ben Pershing Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.) is once again drawing attention for making controversial comments to the media, after the told the Arab television network Alhurra that the GOP won in November because many Americans don't want a black president. In the interview, which has been flagged by the Weekly Standard and The Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin, Moran said that Democratic losses in the 2010 elections ... ... happened because of the same reason the Civil War happened in the United States. The Civil War happened because the Southern states, particularly the slaveholding states, didn't want to see a president who was opposed to slavery. In this case a lot of people in this country, I believe, don't want to be governed by an African American, particularly one who is inclusive, who is liberal, who wants to spend money on everyone and who wants to reach out to include everyone in our society. That's a basic philosophical clash. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=news&cd=7&sqi=2&ved=0CHAQqQIwBg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fvoices.washingtonpost.com%2Fvirginiapolitics%2F2011%2F01%2Fmoran_2010_gop_victories_happe.html&ei=DAJDTc3DOJTmsQO9t-SvCg&usg=AFQjCNHSHBrX0KYtTCU2huT0X6CKNIKWCw

Is that Moran or Moron.
I guess the real message sent last November was not received in DC....and that is a true shame.
He's not an African American...he's a Hawaiian American.

Sadly, his views represent Obama's base...

I see the Democrats are still living in denial...they pull out the race card when its the credit card people are pissed about.

Jim Moran is an absolute disgrace. No matter how many times I voted against him, it made not a whit of difference. The guy is a bomb thrower.

The problem Democrats have is that both of those cards are being rejected due to exceeding the credit limit...

That must mean my race is Tennessee-American and you belong to the Florida-American race. I cannot wait to see the 2020 U.S. census form: 5 pages dedicated to asking folks their race.

Well, he's right about one thing - a lot of people don't want a black president. Just look at the "birthers"

Close up all those Irish-American, German-American, Italian-American clubs. Why? Are you implying that there can't be clubs for Irish, German or Italian immigrants?

Just look at the "birthers" I could really care less about skin color...I simply have a problem with politically correct bullshit like "African American". Call our black driver from Jamaica "African American" and you will be corrected. News flash...not all black people come from or have traceable roots to Africa.

You think these clubs are only for immigrants? Try 4th, 5th an 6th generation Americans still calling themselves Irish-American, German-American, Italian-American.

Some black American's ancestors arrived in the United States during the 1700 and 1800s and are unable to trace their roots to Africa.

ed, I wasn't defending the idiot. I was merely pointing out the obvious. Those who don't like having a black president claim he wasn't born here.

You're correlating two things that are unrelated. You're pulling the race card and it reduces your credibility to zero...I hope you don't really feel that way, but are just reflecting the pathetic bias and intolerance of the left-wing party line.

I have to agree with magichat on that one. What does the location of ones birth having anything to do with their race? Granite it can be true, but it is nothing but an assumption. If I am right I believe there is plenty of whites born in South Africa( please correct me if I am wrong).
The who color thing is so flawed, the people that point out the racist are keeping their beliefs strong. IMHO I am not try to make it a personal accusation gardeninggrandma, it is just an observation I notice in society.

Virginia, You Must Be So Proud!
Moran is just telling it like it is. If anyone thinks there are many in this country both black and white who don't like Obama because he is black then they are not realists.
You still have segments of this country who think Obama is a Muslim and that he was not born in Hawaii, and there are blacks who don't like him because he is only half black, and his mother was white...
I am not 100% certain of the numbers but would hazard a guess and say that @10% of our country doesn't like Obama because he is a black man.

Ed-tossing aside the claim our president was born outside the United States, do you believe there are no (as in zero) American citizens who believe President Obama nor any other black, U.S. natural born citizen should ever be president of the United States?

It's easier to blame their defeat on the alleged stupidity, and bigotry of their opponents than it is to own up and admit that the country rejected their destructive failed policies.
MAYBE, just maybe Democrats lost the election because their President thinks that joking around about citizens being violated at the airports is appropriate during the State of the Union as humor, instead of a real problem that he ought to be addressing. Maybe people think that a nation that just piled three trillion dollars onto an already massive public debt shouldn't be discussing 1960's pie-in-the-sky high speed rail boondoggles. Maybe they're embarassed that they have a President that while the rest of the world is coming face to face with unsustainable levels of spending, borrowing, and debt is proposing new spending. Maybe the people don't want a President and a party that used parlamentary tactics on Christmas eve to ram a health care plan down their throats that doesn't lower costs, and is driving their insurers out of business- breaking the two primary promises which were that it would lower costs, and if you liked your plan you could keep it. Maybe they see healthcare as a cynical ploy to destroy an industry so the government can take it over like they've wanted to do all along. Maybe "black" is on some people's list, but I suspect even for the racists it's pretty far down the list given the failures of the President and his Party.

I believe there are white people who believe no black person should be president and that there are black people who don't want a black person to be president.... Has no connection with someone questioning where he was born. Why do these people who don't want to talk about this subject keep bringing it up?

Are you saying racists were fine with President Obama running for office and only now are they angry at him for his failures and that of his Party?

I believe there are white people who don't want a black person to be president. I believe there are black people who don't want a black person to be president. I believe there are black people who don't want a white person to be president. I believe there are latino people who don't want a black person to be president. I believe there are black people who don't want a latino person to be president. I believe there are men who don't want a woman to be president. I believe there are women who don't want a woman to be president.
None of this has anything to do with the large number of people who believe Obama, regardless of his ethnicity (which is half white by the way), has not satisfactorily proven that he was born in the United States...
