thyme's birth plan = "If they don't know what to do at the hospital, there are much, much bigger problems."

MIL is a l&d nurse. She says women come in at 10cm that refuse to push until they get their epi. And they get it in them as fast as possible. I've heard tons of women be denied an epi because they were too far along though, so I don't know if her hospital is just progressive or drug pushers or what.

will it include old, topless women splashing dirty water on my hoo-hah and chanting? Old topless women with boobs that look like tube socks. I know nothing about pygmies. lol

I know this isn't the place, but I have a family scoop! My FORMER sil wants my bro back...she "gave him up" by her own admittance and now regrets it...problem is, he got remarried a year ago to a wonderful woman who worships the ground he walks on...Oops! He has no feelings for the former and is quite happy right where he is...it will NEVER happen!

Make sure it is either a chimp or an elephant since they apparentlt give birth the "proper" way. You don't want some human woman running off to use an OB and a hospital!

It pretty much natural instinct, your contractions kind of force the push. Just my personal opinion as well, but I think contractions are so painful because it makes you want to push - you know once the baby is out the pain will stop so you really want to push that kid out. They kept saying they were getting me an epi or something, then the baby popped out At which point I was still asking for drugs (as I am getting stitched up in sensitive areas with no anesthetic & have nurses digging into my stomach to make sure all the placenta & stuff is out) & they all laughed at me & said it is over I don't get drugs now.

I didn't push at first. DH and MIL ran down to our car to get the rosary dgm had made for ds. I swear they couldn't have timed it worse if they tried. I just kept my mouth shut and focused on relaxing, and miraculously when they were back I was ready. It took 3 hours of pushing though, so I probably should have just started and saved us all 15 minutes.

"My current birth plan - hire a surrogate to have one for me." If you supply the eggs and Carnation Instant Breakfast, I am pretty healthy. My eggs are dead though.

DD got out in 1 contraction & I think just 1 push. She was already practically out before I intentionally started pushing. The previous contraction I had a nurse trying to hold my legs together & yelling at me not to push (not kidding, this is actually what happened) because they were trying to get the room ready & get a doc in there. Later she apologized for yelling & said I made their night interesting

How do you stop the urge to push??? It's awful being told to do that...

You need a safe place for them sleep, some way to keep them fed, and some diapers/clothes to cover them with. That's about it really. The rest you can buy as needed. Oh, and a car seat. They won't let you leave the hospital without one. I think they'll give you one if you don't have on though.

I remember yelling back at the nurse that I couldn't not push (nice double negative), but I guess somehow I didn't because DD didn't pop out. Either that or the holding the legs together trick really works

My labor was NOT bad. But pushing is exhausting.

I didn't have to spend much time pushing for DS either, but his labor went on for over 24 hours & sucked - they actually talked about a C-section at one point because I just wasn't progressing.

MM--I've read stories of friends international adoption trips, and it's rarely a cake walk!

I held my breath so tight trying NOT to push that I burst a blood vessel in my eye...it took almost a week to turn into a bruise and then go away.

Our youngest has been home for almost 6 years now and DH still wonders why I have such an aversion to having to fly for more than 2-3 hours... LOL, Adoption cannot be an easy process emotionally. Had a coworker that was adopting & they even sent around pictures of the baby the day he was born. Then they had to send around the announcement later that day that the birth mother changed her mind . I felt so bad for them, that has to be heart-wrenching.

It depends on which part of Russia you went to, some of them are not as "cakey" as others

DH said he would go with me this weekend to register, though I'm not exactly sure how we're going to combine that with camping Anyway, thanks to everyone for their help... some more than Taxman others...

If you get the A&A swaddling blankets buy the $50 ones, not the $35 at target. The more expensive ones are larger, more functional, and use better material.
