You can sign up at CPSC to receive e-mails when children's items are recalled.
Also a lot of hospitals (at least in my area) have a safety store where they sell certified childproofing equipment and have them on display in a fake house so you can test them out. My local one sells the stuff at wholesale prices.

My baby was potty trained by six weeks.
My baby slept through the night from her very first night.
My baby never cried, she would politely ask me for more milk when she was hungry.
I don't always have babies... but when I do... they drink DOS EQUIIS.

SIL weighs about 90lbs non-pregnant (at 5'8") and has the hips of a 10yo boy. Both her babies have been over 10lbs. I can't wait to tell her that DN3 can be a vaginal birth if she just tries hard enough

She's an OBGYN nurse, so you'd think she'd know what she's doing, but apparently not

Veternarian. Ina May Gaskin is a midwife and she suggests watching videos of elephants and chimps give birth. In my interview last week with Ina May Gaskin, I couldn’t resist taking the opportunity to ask an extra question for our readers. I asked Ina May what could our readers do to learn more on the topic of bodily autonomy and birth, and she suggested watching the two videos after the jump, of an elephant and chimpanzee giving birth. Apparently we have a lot to learn from these animals! feministing.com/2012/01/06/ina-may-gaskin-on-bodily-autonomy-and-birth/

Yeah because how I give birth vs an elephant is the exact same thing. Chimp female pelvises are structured differently than our own and so are their offspring. A chimp can very easily give birth unassisted. It's extremely risky for us and our offspring to give birth the same way becaouse our pelvic region is much different since we spend our lives bipedal. Then our offspring are completely different developmentally at birth than a chimps. Urgh, annoys the crap out of me when people point to animals whose reproductive physiology is completely different from our as examples of how human mothers should give birth.

I didn't have time for meds...I went from 5cm to 10cm VERY QUICKLY!! That is pretty much what happened to me. DD was born less than an hour after I was admitted at 4 cm. I'll say I wasn't screaming & yelling, but more whining & moaning asking when the frack were they going to get me my epidural. The reason I think my reaction was pretty common is because they were pretty much ignoring how I was acting & never bothered to check my dialation after my admittance. So I am guessing many women get whiny like me. I did start screaming help when DD actually started coming & there wasn't a damn person in the room with me. Nurses move hella fast when a baby is actually popping out & they don't have anything in the room actually set for delivery.
