I can't remember what the device is called, but one of my friends has a touch pad for her daughter that is specifically designed to help her communicate. She said her girl just loves it.

We were watching Taboo on the National Geographic channel and one of the stories was about autistic people (they focused on older men). It was fascinating the thoughts they could type out on the computer that they weren't able to speak aloud.
