What floors me is why not move to an area where this is okay? Why move to where it isn't and then act like that? Maybe because they liked the house, the price and location. Sorry, if you want to live among people who dictate to the neighbors, then you can join an HOA and live where they seem to come up with the most ridiculous rules and a pet group of people get to go about weilding their iron fist. No thanks. And, i am going to live my life on my terms, not my neighbor's. Sorry, they don't pay my bills so they don't get to tell me how to live.

My neighbor didn't feel the need to stop his 5 year old granddaughter from poking my dog with a stick through my fence. He just wanted to come up to the fence to be friendly and she's poking him with a sharp stick. I politely asked him to stop her as I don't want my dog to react and be mean to children, nor do I want him hurt. He said he'd talk to her and perhaps he did, but it didn't do any good. The next weekend she was there, she was doing it again.
I have a German Shepherd and he outweighs me. He's a BIG dog. So I went out and told her that if he accidently got out of the yard, he would probably eat her for hurting him.
Funny. Haven't seen her since.

That's why I don't rent to section 8. They all act like they want to live like nice people but then, they don't. If you want to behave like trash, then stay where trash lives. Don't bring your ghetto behavior into a nice area and expect decent and well brought up,people to be okay with it. They won't be.

I can't stand nebnoses. I think people would be a lot happier if they just focused on what is their business and stopped minding someone else's. I can only control what i can control. I can't control other people so i don't see the point of working myself up about what other people do or don't do.

Because their behavior brings down the value of your home and their friends are probably just like them and now they know where nice people live. I wonder if HOAs would have ever been necessary if people hadn't gotten so trashy.

You seem to assume that not living up to the dictates of your neighbor equates to living like a slob and destroying property. That isn't at all what i am talking about. There is a lot of grey area between mowing checkerboard patterns into your lawn and clipping your grass with nosehair trimmers.

I didn't "Section 8" was a new class of people. The "Section 8ers" . Maybe they need to form their own group to combat your broad generalizations?

WOW you are wrapped way to tight, I can understand not wanting to live near trash, but the standards you seem to be talking about seem to be in a gated prison housing area. Lighten up a little and enjoy life.(your life, not others) Yeah, really. Griping about someone old duffer walking in his yard without a shirt seems really overly involved.

If people went to get in your business, might as well give them something to talk about!

There should be a law against overly nebby neighbors. Oh, yeah there is. Property laws. What is mine is mine and what is yours is yours. So, go mind yours and i will mind mine.

Yes, from what I'm learning on the other thread, it would be much more helpful - and totally justified - to just go ahead and drive your car onto their property and scream any concerns you have at the top of your lungs.

Well of course, then that person would fall to their knees in act of repentence. Yeah, happens that way all the time.

It's just very helpful to make sure everybody understands the rules of the neighborhood so they can conduct themselves accordingly. Apparently if one has a concern that is legitimate to Rick, then the proper form of communicating that concern is to roll into the neighbor's driveway and yell loudly. If the concern has not been Rick-adjudicated as proper, one should simply suck it up. It's all so simple, why can't all these dummies just follow the rules?

If someone comes rolling up onto my yard in, they best be aware that the Second Amendment still exists!

...:::LOL I can tell by the way you are conducting yourself here, you are very approachable and I'm sure this lady reacted accordingly:::... Let's see, is the approachable and reasonable person the one who advocates rational discussion and is willing to admit when she is wrong or the one who advocates showing his hairy ass and then mowing at 8 AM?

I think we are good neighbors. I've never heard ours complain about us. Our yard isn't perfect or landscaped but then not a lot of yards are. DH mows regularly, we shovel in the winter. The house could use some touching up but all the houses are from the mid/late 1940s so wear/tear just comes with the territory. I suppose it helps that this is the neighborhood I have lived in since I was a kid. My parents are good neighbors so I was grandfathered in. Seriously most of the people who are in the neighborhood have lived in it since I can remember. We have new ones come in but since slumlord lost all his properties we haven't had any issues. When he owned houses in the area my parents got some pretty nasty neighbors from time to time before they would skip out in the middle of the night. Now the people that own the house (the slumlord got foreclosed on) are really nice. They have a granddaughter that is Gwen's age, we are going to try to arrange a play date. ;D

Everyone here mows early morning/late evening. It's too hot to mow in the afternoon. Nobody seems to think risking heat stroke is worth it.

Class and manners always show. As defined by YOU? Snobs are annoying and always try to resort to that. Class is defined by considering the feelings of others on your part as well. And, as a "classy" person, you would simply learn to deal with the leaves in your pool versus bee itching at the neighbors.

I will mow at what I consider reasonable hours. If the neighbor works nightshift and asks me to consider a different time, i will. But i won't abide people trying to boss me around and control my life according to their pet peeves.

North of it? I think we're square in the middle of it! I know the feeling. Mowers fire up at 6:00 a.m. around here. Nobody minds because everybody has to do it or risk a horrible death by incineration.
