Ok Rick, here's a problem for you....(well really it's a problem for me, but I'll ask you to solve it :-) )
I have a '92 f-150 v6 w/ 4x4. It's got 240k on the engine and around 90k on the transmission.
Last night, my dad drove it to my house, when he got there he said something was wrong w/ the transmission b/c it was shifting really hard. Also the speedometer didn't work.
So we checked the trans fluid, it looked a little low, but not crazy low.
When i drove it, I noticed the odometer and the radio weren't working either.
So the speedometer, odometer and radio aren't working and the transmission is shifting hard (but not like head-jerking hard, but hard enough to let you know it's there).
Everything was working fine last week.
I initially thought the fuses were bad, but I changed them around and nothing happened w/ the radio or odometer?
We did add some transmission fluid.
Could multiple fuses have blown at the same time, and they all need replaced?
Any ideas?
thanks!

Its the switch mounted under the shift linkage on the left side of the transmission. Its an easy fix, cost about 80 buck. You can do it yourself. When you go to put the new switch on, you will notice the mounting is slotted and there are 2 hash marks on the switch. One on the case, and one on the moveable part of the switch. Put the trans in neutral, slide the switch over the shift shaft. Line up the 2 marks on the case and tighten. Thanks!! now...huh? Where/what is the shift linkage? Do I have to remove anything to get to the RSS? If I disconnect the old range selector will the radio work. But the truck wouldn't actually run with the RSS out correct? When i put the new RSS in, that will fix the radio/speedometer/odometer and shifting issues? Thanks!

so if i wanted to disconnect it, just to see if that was the problem, how would i go about that??
If i disconnect it, the truck will still start, and I can see if the radio and odometer work, right? But i couldn't drive it with the switch disconnected?
At least then, I would know the problem and could take it to the mechanic. I could re-connect the switch right?
thanks!

Is it ok to drive it like it is now, with a failing RSS?? Could it blow up at any second...or will it just be an inconvience??
So I should start the truck, disconnect the RSS, then check the radio?
If the radio works, we know that the problem is the RSS.
Reconnect the RSS, then drive it to the mechanic?

It was a bad fuse afterall. It's running like a champ again.
