There is an expression here, "If you need something done, ask a busy person."
I think a lot of busy people are more organized, because they have to be.
At one point I was a single mom of three kids under six, working four days a week. I was very very busy LOL! Then DH2 came along, and we had four kids at home, he worked crazy hours, I was still working four days a week, so I was still very very busy!
Now the kids are older, and only the younger two live here FT. As of Sept I will be working FT instead of PT. I was initially scheduled to work FT this past school year, but I gave up my second regular job after DH's accident. I teach, and here, 18 teaching hours a week = FT at university level. Some periods are insanely busy, and I don't know how I will get through them. Other periods are calmer. Nonetheless I need the money so I have just committed myself to a FOURTH "occasional" job, and I'm still waiting to hear on a fifth.
I too get anxious when my schedule gets out of whack. Which is why I opted for a barely FT teaching schedule at my main job, and a bunch of extra, occasional jobs, some of which happen during the lulls at my main job.
So some of the time I am less busy, or even not busy, which is absolutely FINE with me. I guess at 52 I feel I have earned the right to be lazy sometimes LOL.
I also feel that the Internet is both a huge time-saver, and a huge time-suck. I'm so glad Al Gore only invented it once my four kids were bigger!

I was JUST reading a NYT editorial on that subject yesterday...let me dig it up when I get to a computer. But yes, people out-busy each other as a measure of status ("Look how much demand there is for my time! My life is important!") when really, a lot of what makes us busy is pretty meaningless... I read that too. I was rooting the guy on (who wrote the article) for being honest about the entire situation and how he was fighting it every way. To answer the OP - I have a neighbor who would drive her kids to and from school in her huge air conditioned SUV. She is a SAHM. KIDDING!! I'd be outside pulling weeds, pruning, etc. and she'd yell out "Hello POM!" and walk towards the road towards me. I'd stop what I was doing and walk towards her to ask how she was doing thinking she wanted to tell me something. All she said was "Oh! I'm just so busy, busy, busy!" Her canned reply was always "Busy, busy, busy!!" When not doing house chores or dinner she played Texan Hold 'em on the computer. Her husband told me that and she did too. After the 10th time of her interrupting what I was doing in the yard to tell me how busy, busy, busy she was I replied "I'll take your word for it!" and continued working my ass off fertilizing, etc. She stopped saying it. She knew I was on to her. She didn't even bring the garbage cans in from the road! Busy, busy, busy my ass!

Absolutely Susan!!! ETA: And kudos and karma to you for going back to school! Thanks, debt. I am actually not really in school. I went back to school for a grad degree a couple of years ago. Now, I am taking fairly casual classes, mostly for fun. I am taking a cooking class and then an hr class. Nothing that involves homework or a lot of work, just a way to keep learning and enjoy life.

I don't understand why someone feels the need to make the pronouncement about how "busy" they are. I don't get that. Does that make them feel higher on the pecking order of life or something?

I have a FB friend who is one of those who wants to give a play by play of their life on FB. She is constantly saying how busy she is and I am always thinking obviously you aren't too busy to stop and post on FB every minute of the day. Then she will post how she wishes she had time to exercise and in the next post will talk about what she watched on TV last night. Hmmmm... okay... Waaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaay too funny.. smileyshack.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/smileyslaughing_lol_hehe_100-102.gif?w=32&h=33 [/img]

I'm not busy but since we are having the house remodeled, I feel trapped here. You can't leave or something major happens. What really ticks me is that I wanted to go to Detroit on Monday to see some friends and because they won't be done with the floor tomorrow like they were supposed to be, I have to stay home and babysit them again.

I first noticed the title to this thread when I popped in at lunch yesterday. I didn't actually have time to read any of it, but I LOL'd because I was too busy to read the thread. ;D

I think it's true that the real busy people don't complain all the time about how they're busy, they're too tired to complain . If you've got the energy to complain, you probably aren't as busy as you think you are.

Yup, I'm not laying the floor but being trapped here is hard and it's summer for Pete's sake!
