... Seriously, will this mess ever end for us? As long as Americans read a story like the one linked in the OP and think, "..., will this mess ever end for us?" the answer will be, "No". If Americans come to the realization that it isn't all about "us", then it will.

"Well, you are predicting a Republican in the White House soon."
Care to elaborate? You do realize that 9/11 was being dreamed up, planned, etc when Bill Clinton was in office, right? Are you really trying to politicize one of the nation's worst tragedies?

Are you really trying to politicize one of the nation's worst tragedies? I do not hold to the contention that 9/11 gave us no option but to invade Afghanistan. We did not have to do so. We did not have to leave troops there as we have.

As I have thought about this more:
For me, "Afghanistan" is now the failed policy of military invasion of a country. The idea of "defense of Life, Liberty, and Freedom" pointed me towards focusing on that. If this had been entitled, "Our next Somalia?", that would have focused it on the issue of whether it is an area in which we potentially need to be concerned. However, I would still respond that it is our involvement in local disagreements that lead to need to continue to be involved in local disagreements.

i am of the opinion that radical islam is a relatively small problem, but a very difficult one to solve. i am sure some of you will disagree.
i also think that what we are doing in terms of foreign policy is pretty much the opposite of a solution. i am sure most of you won't disagree.

I was just in Black Mountain over the weekend when much of the rest of the country was getting hammered by storms. It's an interesting place to ponder preparedness as it is the setting for the book, ONE SECOND AFTER

Our next Afghanistan? Is that Iran?
Which country should be next on the list to be targeted by the USA?

so we can be sure this will become a new hotspot for the defense of Life, Liberty, and Feedom. I honestly had no idea y'all were capable of such scintillating wit. The article says "Al-Qaida linked" though, reading further down, the link appears to be rather tenuous if any. Perhaps the first step towards ending the mess should be our ceasing to perpetuate it.

Does anybody honestly think we're going to invade this place, even if Romney gets in? Unless there is another 9/11, I just can't see that happening, and even then, probably not.

Our next Afghanistan? Is that Iran? Which country should be next on the list to be targeted by the USA? Why yes, I believe it is Iran. The USA doesn't want them to use the nuclear technology that the USA sold them, apparently. It's like something out of "Fractured Fairy Tales".

Saddam Hussein's Iraq used to keep Iran in check. How many lives were wasted and how much money was squandered removing Hussein, just so we could free Iran from that threat and enable them to become a threat to the rest of the world?
And as for
I find it ironic that Iranian theocracy is being demonized by the same people who seek to emplace theocratic tyranny right here in the USA. Religious chauvinism is a cancer of the body politic.

And as for I find it ironic that Iranian theocracy is being demonized by the same people who seek to emplace theocratic tyranny right here in the USA. Religious chauvinism is a cancer of the body politic. Is there a move afoot to emplace theocratic tyranny right here in the USA? Wow... I must have missed the memo. Care to elaborate? Oh, and, afterwards, please be sure to connect that 'move afoot' to the 'barbarians' comment referenced. I'm keenly interested in seeing a substantive connection between the two... Thanks ever-so-much. ----- Oh, and, BTW, just to be clear... I was not targeting the Iranian Theocracy specifically with that remark... I was painting with a much broader brush, to include all of Radical Islam... of which Iran is merely one slice... but I'll be very happy to demonize the Iranian Theocracy for you, completely free of intent to emplace theocratic tyranny, and completely free of charge... hope that helps... ;D

question: why are we talking about the NEXT Afghanistan when we are still fully entrenched in the present one? Didn't Hillary just open the gates to the supply lines sitting for months at the Pakistani border today? She apoligized for killing Pakistani troops accidently so the President didn't have to. Yes, I know this has nothing to do with getting out of Afghanistan, but I am at my two thread limit right now.

question: why are we talking about the NEXT Afghanistan when we are still fully entrenched in the present one? Ah, maybe because if we actually talk about it now, we, the people, (not the Presidency) can prevent "the next one"? We can safely assume the Prsident or Congress will not prevent the next one.

Yes, I know this has nothing to do with getting out of Afghanistan, but I am at my two thread limit right now. Yes she did...and Pakistan's said they would NOT raise the fees that they have been getting on the trucks that passed through their country...It has been costing us $100 million more a month according to the article i read to use the supply routes forced on us when Pakistan closed the route through their country..I guess some might object to the three words mentioned.."We are sorry " as a lost of face but if it makes things more normal, saves lives, $ ..a little face is no biggie to me especially since the loss of 24 innocents..Pakistani an military by accidental attack is something we should be sorry for..even if there was some confusion or possible mistakes on their side..the loss of life is always a tragedy and hurts some one..country, fellow friends and companions, the people them selves the loved ones and family of the lost so to say . "We are sorry " why not...
