It's supposed to drop into the 20s here tonight. I'm thinking we might actually get snow this year, it's been awhile.

Well, we finally got the rain they said we'd get all day. Just sprinkles though no thunderstorm.

TV said it was 21 in Houston when I got up at 6; we made it up to 37 at 3. Rolling blackouts across the state and lots of school closures. Some traffic signals weren't working but it didn't matter because no one pays any attention to them anyway. Forecast is wakeup tomorrow around 20-21 and then the fun starts tomorrow evening. Sleet and snow across Southeast Texas all Thursday night and Friday morning. I'm actually have an ice scraper/snow brush in the garage as a relic of our Colorado and New Mexico vacations and a Barbie pink ski mask from my trail riding period. Both will be used tomorrow. We're good-plenty of no cook foods from last hurricane season, bottled water in case the water plant shuts down, and full bottles of Diet Coke, whiskey and rum. I heard people whining today that they couldn't light the burners on their gas stove because they had electronic ignition. OMG, use a match, fool!

TiredTurkey, I live in the Boston area and this is what I do to keep my windshields clear. I cover them with plastic from a roll of 4 mil. thick plastic. I cut the piece wide enough to cover the entire window and windshield wipers and long enough to be tucked around the frame of the front doors so when the door is shut it holds the plastic in place. Ice will not stick to plastic.
When you have to be to work by 7 a.m. it's a time saver just removing the plastic, folding and throwing it in the back seat. I do both the front and back windows.

Hi Chef, "cover them with plastic from a roll of 4 mil. thick plastic. I cut the piece wide enough to cover the entire window and windshield wipers and long enough to be tucked around the frame of the front doors so when the door is shut it holds the plastic in place."
I've do this same trick with old sheets, twin to king-sized depending upon your vehicle. You are right; come out, flick the ice and snow off and toss that puppy in the bed or trunk. It sure beats defrosting your door lock and scraping all the ugly off your windshield and wipers. I'm lucky, DH grew up in Detroit, loves the cold and taught me early how to cope. We only get this mess now and then which is what makes it scary-we know how to drive on ice and snow but most folks around here don't.

Some stoves have a safety lock-out which prevents gas flow if there is no power to the ignitor.

SE WI 27 Light snow shower.... again.
I shoveled the 1" we got this am in hopes that the sun would stay out to melt some and then dry out the concrete. That was wishful thinking and I have already thrown some salt around so I don't end up on my backside Monday morning.

The Super Bowl is starting and it's 73 degrees and sunny with a very slight breeze. Time for a quick rita on the patio.

Gee, it's only -9 here, with a windchill of -22. You must be more north and/or west, Kimber.

For POM, in spite of her weather comment. Its still windy here. Long range forecast on weather.com implies two days with highs above 40 next weekend. Yay!

Another -15 morning with a -30 windchill, might get above zero today. Extended forcast is calling for mid 30's this weekend (shorts and flip flop weather)
