Did I ever tell you about the time I earned my imaginary Purple Heart?
I think this was the right call as well. If someone falsely claims to be a doctor or a cop, people can get hurt. You can't let that happen. If someone falsely claims to be a hero, then they're just a douche.

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

Yep. I agree it's unfortunate there are people out there who are so insecure they need to steal another's thunder to make themselves feel worthwhile; however, I would agree it seems unconstitutional to start controlling what someone can say if it's not endangering others.

Purple Heart?? Big deal. They hand those things out to everyone who skins their knee in Iraq or Afghanistan. My Congressional Medal of Honor though... you don't even want to know what I had to do to get that bastard.

During WW II, my dad was a member of the 10th Mountain Division (the guys who climbed Riva Ridge/the face of the Appenine Mountains when no one thought it could be done) and chased the Germans out of Italy at the end of the war. He remembers one guy coming into the mess hall with a small bruise under his eye because he'd accidently gotten hit by a loaf of bread that had been thrown at the soldiers (by the townspeople, in gratitude) as the army caravan moved through town. A medic patched his eye and handed him a form to fill out for a Purple Heart. Apparently the guy growled, "LIKE HELL I'm gonna take a Purple Heart for getting nicked by a loaf of bread!" He could have taught the jerks who were the impetus for the Stolen Valor Act a thing or two about honor . . .

The court of public opinion will take of those who falsify their military records.

Indeed. The First Amendment is a huge deal, and worthy of defending. But if you take advantage of it to say a bunch of stupid s---, there will be consequences.
They may not be legal consequences, but I trust the good people of this country to make it hurt.

You realize many of those sleight wounds you are making fun of, just a 1/8 of a inch one way or the other ..if that much and the one involved is being sent home under the nations flag.. To me the CIB and the Purple Heart are the most important decorations, recognition of, one can be proud to receive from the country...but that's me.

I got a CIB for getting drunk with some guys from 4th ID in Bahrain on the day that they captured Saddam Hussein. I never wore it on my uniform, obviously, because a CIB is reserved for soldiers who have fought in active ground combat while attatched to an infantry or SF unit. I just don't have the plumbing for it. Dark, would this be a bad time to mention that you got your MOH for that time you were a submarine door gunner?

Didn't 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' guy lie about a bunch of military honors and medals he was supposedly given?

I don't know, thyme. I looked it up on that bastion of pure and unadulterated information (Wikipedia) and couldn't find anything about him lying about his medals and honors. It said he received the Air Medal.
