sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/soccer/wires/06/22/2050.ap.soc.euro.2012.running.20th.ld.writethru.1708/index.htmlGermany made it to the UEFA semi-finals this weekend by beating Greece. German fans chanted "we paid for your tickets" towards the end of the game. Germany plays Italy in the semi's while Portugal plays Spain. Is it a bit ironic that Germany, to win the UEFA Euro 2012, will have to beat 3 of the dead beat countries in the EU [Greece, Italy and Portugal/Spain]? I've just put a couple hundred quid down on Germany hoping that they win it all, just like I hope they hold strong with fiscal restraint and integrity while other countries are begging them to spend money they do not have to bail out the irresponsible.

ironic? no. sport in this form - for country, not for personal gain - has nothing to do with money. I didn't see it, but that's a tacky showing by the German fans.

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

Killed another political thread because someone does not understand metaphors I was wondering if the Germans would say anything at the game. Glad to see they won. They were dominating. Then when Greece tied, it looked a bit dicey. For a minute or two that is...

Touch of Irony watching the Chancellor Merkel cheering on her team, she having just come from the talks about Greece and the bailouts (Aid)

Killed another political thread because someone does not understand metaphors If you want to talk about politics start a thread about politics, don't start a thread about sports and try to tie it to politics. We have a sports forum, and that's where such threads will be placed. mmhmm, P&M Moderator
