There is more and more evidence mounting that China is moving towards adopting Christianity as a state religion. There is increasing intolerance with Islamic populations in inner Mongolia and other parts of China. Not to mention their new stance on terrorism...

The main parts of Beijing are decorated at Christmas time and they have openly stated that they are going to look toward the US as they start to really focus on happiness over GDP.

That is a good question. China has changed considerably to its former self,engaging in enterprise just like the west.

In time, no doubt more religious Chinese will also be amongst the new leaders and other political and influential areas. Interesting indeed especially now that they have adopted Christianity.

That's exactly it happyhippy. It's all about happiness not GDP, their social bubble is by far the biggest thing the media never talks about. I think if they do "announce" a new state religion it would be more than Catholicism. It should be interesting to see how this develops anyway.

There it is.. Great article trevor... Makes a lot more sense why the US is beefing up presence in that area NOW desent it? It's not like the Chinese have an issue with Islamic extremism or anything, and it's not like China has taken a new stance on the Mid East or anything...

China's interest in the Middle East is purely mercenary. China has vast industrial potential but needs materials to fulfil that potential. If it reaches that potential it then needs markets to export to. Thus it's opening up more to the West.

It could be that acceptance of the Christian religion allows its population to have a further outlet for their thoughts, rather than Communism.
Be under no illusions. The state church is under control of the Government. Many Provinces allow no mention of Christianity outside the state church, or allow house meetings, or mention of Christianity in public, on the pain of punishment.

Although not all these people are Christians, the fact is that right now there is no official count and if China adopt Christianity as a state religion it will be interesting to see just how many more Christians there are in the world..

Well if you read this thread, you know that China has moved into the political landscape of the Mid East. Meanwhile, they are fighting against Islamic extremism in inner Mongolia, and while they still aren't accepting of Christianity in public yet, a few interesting events have transpired in China over the last while here.

ZHAO XIAO, a former Communist Party official and convert to Christianity, smiles over a cup of tea and says he thinks there are up to 130m Christians in China. This is far larger than previous estimates. The government says there are 21m (16m Protestants, 5m Catholics). Unofficial figures, such as one given by the Centre for the Study of Global Christianity in Massachusetts, put the number at about 70m. But Mr Zhao is not alone in his reckoning. A study of China by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, an American think-tank, says indirect survey evidence suggests many unaffiliated Christians are not in the official figures. And according to China Aid Association (CAA), a Texas-based lobby group, the director of the government body which supervises all religions in China said privately that the figure was indeed as much as 130m in early 2008.

If so, it would mean China contains more Christians than Communists (party membership is 74m) and there may be more active Christians in China than in any other country. In 1949, when the Communists took power, less than 1% of the population had been baptised, most of them Catholics. Now the largest, fastest-growing number of Christians belong to Protestant “house churches”.

Rome adopted "Christianity" as well.  Never really was a Christian empire.

Very true Paul. Christianity was forced onto the Roman Empire, just like it's being "forced" onto the commies in China(an empire that will fall). On the in between, our ancestors from the Byzantine to the British Empires, used force to spread Christianity around the globe.

The fact of the matter is the most interesting part. Christian has actually spread around the globe faster in the last 100 yrs than at anytime in history. The majority of that is most likely because of mission work to help feed and educate poor people. The explosion of Christianity in China since the 1940's is a prime example..

 Virgil, this is massive.  China is basically admitting they are laying the groundwork for the transition to democracy.  They are admitting that if they stick to their Mao's roots they will bring on a revolution, and they are looking west for their solutions.  Regardless of how well they followed them, the foundling fathers of the US were basing the new country on the principals and teachings of JC.  China has the fastest growing Christian population in the world, they are looking at Burke(devout Christian) and how Christian countries succeeded.  Tensions are rising across the Mid East and the Jihad's network is everywhere. Lines across the globe will be drawn if these guys start stepping up their attacks, and India is the only Country left(aside from China) this isn't either Muslim or Christian. What ties it all together is that Moe was a true believer in JC, and it was his followers that turned him into the true profit.  So what side are China and Inda on?

As the people rise up, and with China on path to be largest Christian country. It's looking more and more like China will adopt a state religion. Especially if you take into account the evidence posted above.

The Communist Party has hit out at predictions in The Telegraph that China is on course to become the world’s biggest Christian congregation, in a sign of Beijing’s deep unease at the rapid spread of Christianity within its borders...

....the prediction appears to have gone down badly in Communist Party circles, with many senior leaders fearing the impact an increasingly powerful church could have on their ability to stay in power.....

...In an interview published in 2009, Mr Ye insisted China had abandoned a 25-year battle to “shrink religion”. However, “religion continues to concern us” because of fears it could be used to “overthrow” the Party, he admitted.
