"Oh be somethin you'll love and understand.
Forget your lust for the rich man's gold All that you need is in your soul, And you can do this if you try All that I want for you my son, Is to be satisfied." -Lynyrd Skynyrd
Amen!!!! I love that song. How true.
What do you want for your kids?

My MIL always says that all she wanted for her kids was for them to grow up content. I definitely like that goal. For my own kids, I want them to live in a world that has opportunity. Given the condition of the US/global economy, I'm not sure that will happen.

I want my daughter to grow up with a sense of independence, self confidence, and a logical thinking mind.

To have a chance to succeed
That's it...not a guarantee...but a chance
And i expect my kids to succeed in all their endeavors through hard work, persistence, and a little luck
And i expect i will be behind them pushing just a little harder than maybe they want
Hey...whats a dad for?

all I want is for my kid(s) to figure out what they need to make life worth living and achieve it. Nothing else.

I want my daughter to grow up with a sense of independence, self confidence, and a logical thinking mind. Plus I want my son to always challenge himself and to never be afraid to take risks. To be willing to try new times and explore the world around him.

Life is a game, so treat it like any other. Play hard, play to win, but if you're not having any fun what's the point?

that song... DH and MIL danced to that at our wedding I want my future kids to be safe, happy, and content - no matter what path they take to get there.

Oh and as far as them being content - I guess it depends on content with what? I don't want them to ever stop learning or experiencing things, so in that sense I don't want them to be content. But I do want them to appreciate what they already have - if it makes sense

I have a few sage words that I share with my kids on a regular basis:
1. Treat others as you would want to be treated.
2. You don't have to be everyone's best friend, but you should never make someone's life any harder than it might already be.
3. Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful.
4. Good things are going to happen.
5. This is your world. Shape it before someone else does.
6. As compared to most of the rest of the world, we are truly and genuinely blessed. We don't have everything we want, but we certainly have almost everything we need. Know the difference between wants and needs before you start feeling sorry for yourself.
7. Anyone can be cool, but awesome takes practice. (Lorraine Peterson)
8. The high road is always the tougher road because it's uphill from the road more travelled, but the view is far better.
9. And, as I posted on WWBG's thread: Life's journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Sh*t! What a ride!"
Yup. I totally ignore my kids' eye rolling. ;D

My Dad always said he wanted all 5 of us to come out of college with a degree and all our options open. Two siblings married before graduation but they're still married 30+ years later so I guess that was OK. My wish for DS was that he'd come out of college with a degree in something marketable and find work that he enjoyed that paid enough for him to live the way he wanted to. That's happened and we're grateful. I wish he'd take some of his spare cash (and he has a lot despite owning a house) and travel, but that's my prioirty, not his. Rather than giving him things, which aren't important to him, we contribute to travel costs when opportunities for family visits come up. Last weekend we paid for a hotel stay in NYC for his cousin's wedding with Hilton points; a couple of years ago we flew him in for my father's 80th borthday celebraton and picked up his hotel costs.

Stop putting stupid pictures of yourself up on the internet!
But then, I am a bit of a grouch.
