so, this is the lady survivor of the horrible house fire in Connecticut last Christmas. Fire apparently started by her boyfriend putting the paper bag of fireplace ashes in the mudroom (yes, smart). Just last week the state firemarshall announced there would be no criminal charges. But now the lady is planning on suing the city of Stamford! She's likely in grief and mourning and looking for someone to blame, or God, or someone. But sue the city? sheesh. Last week's article about the fire marshall's decision indicated that they had wired smoke alarms but these had not yet been hooked up due to renovations. Does she feel no personal responsibility? Well, yes, probably overwheldming. today.msnbc.msn.com/id/47872323

How about they took down a public nuisance.

She's very lucky that no charges were filed against her or her handyman boyfriend. Horrible tragedy all the way around

That was a very sad situation. While I can see where she is looking for someone to blame other than herself, I can't see her suing the City.

Didn't she have insurance? Why does the city need to compensate her for her dumb-ass mistakes?

This is a truly sad story. And it was Christmas Eve and they were removing the ashes "so Santa could come down the Chimney".
But suing the city is just wrong. They have no responsibility, the house had to be demolished due to fire. I just hate the idea that people think that someone has to be sued for every tragedy.

Yeah, suing the city isn't the right course of action. I doubt she has much of a case.

Wow.
She needs therapy. I don't know if I could function if most of my family was knocked out in one fail swoop due to some negligence.
She is targeting her anger in the wrong direction

Her father that was also killed in the fire was a retired safety inspector for a major company here in my city for many, many years. At the time of the incident, people who knew him said he was a fanatic about safety and he would not have allowed them to dispose of the ashes in that manner. It all probably could have been avoided if she had just asked her dad what to do with the ashes. Sad, sad, story and she is definitely looking to relieve her grieving and in our litigious society, the answer for most people is to sue.

My uncle did the same darn thing last winter. Thank heavens it was his garage. No one died but what a mess!
