I was thinking about this last night. 52 weeks in a year subtract 4 weeks for standard vacation = 48 weeks. Goal is 5 additional weeks of vacation or 200 hours. 43 weeks at work divided by 200 hours = 4.65hr/week. I'll round that up to 5 for my employer..
I would absolutely work 9 hour days if I could get 5 more weeks of vacation a year. *My employer does not offer this, this is pure fantasy..
How about you all?

at my job, if you have 0-4 years of service you get 15 PTO days. Next year I'm at 5 years, so I get 20. \/\/00+ !

For me the fewer the commutes the better. I'd also happily trade Saturdays and Sundays for off days of my choice.

Some jobs will let you work 9 hours days & you get every other friday off. Similar idea, just not a large vacation all at once. My mom gets to work seven 10 hr days & then gets seven days off, but she is special . Fanatastic schedule for vacations - schedule 1 week off (70 hours for her) & you have 3 weeks straight off.

Absolutely. I would work 9 hrs a day just to get 4 weeks of vacation. Right now I only get 2 weeks though I plan to ask for 3 weeks next year.

My wife has had flex schedule jobs in the past. They are nice, but I'd rather have this "hour bank" system that I cooked up.

I would take that in a heartbeat. I'd settle for 4/10 hr workdays a week.

Once I am done nursing & DD's a bit older (and staying up longer), I plan to ask for a flex schedule. 9 hr days M-Th, Fridays alternate with 8 hrs or have the day off. Although I would move the day off to Monday instead - seems like it would go over better around here for some reason.

I would take that in a heartbeat. I'd settle for 4/10 hr workdays a week. Our office switched to that schedule. 1/2 work M-Th and the other 1/2 work T-F. The days get a little long especially if it is a slow time of year but it is completely worth it to have a 3 day weekend.

I can already build up close to 8 weeks of vacation time so probably not.

I do it although its not extra vacation time I can use. I am off every other Friday and work an 8 hr day the Friday I work. I was originally off on Monday but Friday works better at this time. I can switch the Friday if I need to. One of my friends has Tuesday as his day off and short day. Another friend at that agency has 4 10s and the fourth day he works at home. I think he sold his soul to get that lol. The guy who does 4 10s and I are auditors so if we are out in the field, we have to revert back to 5 8s generally. Most of our auditees don't have 9 hour days On the other hand we can get travel comp for audits sometimes.

Sick leave is 4 hours every 2 weeks forever. Annual leave carry over is capped at 240 hours and there is no limit on sick leave.

Well, I have been with my company for 4 years. I started out with 3 weeks of vacation which became 4 weeks after 3 years of service. I can also bank 6 weeks of vacation time and 12 weeks of sick time. DH works for a healthcare giant and gets 30 days of PTO which includes any kind of leave. I know. I already know my company is very, very, very generous.

That is way more than anyone her gets unless they work for the school district. Then again DH works for Ding Dongs who can't figure out what people jump ship ASAP.

I think DH would start giving out "favor's" if it meant he got to work for regular pay plus benefits.

"DH gets ten days including sick days."
This is what I currently get - just 10 PTO days for everything. I had been with my old company for almost 9 years and I was getting 4 weeks off + sick time that could be carried over so this is an adjustment for me. I do intent to ask for 3 weeks PTO next year though since our employee handbook states that PTO becomes negotiable after 2 yrs of service.

wow, I knew I was lucky to be working for my company but sheesh! I remember working for the bank (6 days vacation, but 5 days of sick time), the school store (10 days vacation, 5 days sick time). We don't get personal days - that's why we have so many PTO/vacation days. Salaried employees don't get sick time. That has actually made me only take off work when I'm really not feeling well. I think I've only taken 4 sick days since I've been here (not counting when I was put on 3 days bedrest).

I get 3 weeks already, and can "buy" a 4th. We get 6mos of sick time (meant to bridge the gap incase of disability). 1 personal day instead of getting Christmas Eve (grrr). 12 holidays.

beach,
Sorry to say- but I get 4 weeks of vacation, 2 personal days, 6 sick days , 1 week off between Christmas & New Year and summer hours on Fridays (work for 5 hours on Friday) between Memorial Day and labor day. That is one of the main reasons I have not switched to a new job in 10 years

I am not mad at any of you. Two weeks vacation plus ten days sick used to be the standard here. Jobs for professionals suck her right now. And after almost 4 years it is getting tiring. I just HATE this economy!!! Now I will stop feeling sorry for us.

We also get a floating holiday and 11 regular holidays. My wife is a contractor. She gets 0 days, although really it is built into her rate to take time off.

I get 5 weeks of vacation, two personal days, and 12 sick days each year. There's also days off for holidays (10 total per year). Vacation days will only accrue up to 8 weeks before you start losing it, but sick days never expire.
Right now, I have 5 weeks of vacation and will get another 5 weeks when our fiscal year starts over in September. As for sick days, I have 24 weeks accrued.
For salaried employees, 4 hours in the office was considered a full work day (to allow us to leave early for family emergencies, medical appointments, etc) but that was abused and eventually eliminated a few years ago.
