The Old Testament doesn't relate how or where fire was discovered, although it does mention Cain abd Abel making burnt offerings. I think it curious omission, inasmuch as so many cultures and belief systems do have such legends ("Prometheus", etc.). One would think that the discovery (or "Divine gift") of fire would be a worthy tale for inclusion in the Old Lore... but the Judeo-Christian Pentateuch contains no origin-of-fire anecdote(s).

What about the Burning Bush mentioned in Exodus? I decided to do a little research and thought I'd post this link which might help. Lightning was probably the catalyst to start the fist fire. www.bible-history.com/faussets/F/Fire/

it depends on how you view it really...meaning if you believe in creation or not...if God created an adult, there would obviously be a lot of questions from said human when he became "aware"...i'm sure fire was discovered prior to the "missing link"...
actually, if you believe in creation, there could be billions of years between gen 1:1 and gen1:2...
the bible is more of a history of God's relationship with mankind and the hebrews in particular...
