I just got a deal on 6 one-gallon cans of Mountain House freeze dried chicken and rice, and another 6 one-gallon cans of freeze dried sphagetti with meat sauce. Depending on where you buy it, usually these cans sell for between $22.99 and $ 40 with about another $ 7 for S&H if you order the can individually. Each can has ten servings. I paid around $103 for the six spaghetti cans, and $ 115 for the chicken and rice cans, plus $ 19 for the S&H on each of the whole set of six. That's 120 meal servings, which would give DH & DD two meals each for 40 days. As long as we can get purified water to make it with . We are getting a nice pantry together, and now I only look for bargains to add to it. This way we can also help out family and friends with a can or two if times get hard around here, or there are some kinds of disruptions in the shipping.... Nice! But I would beat you by about $14 if I put in an identical order with Emergency Essentials this month .... with their Mountain House sale I would pay $103 for the chicken & rice, $108 for the spaghetti, and $12 for the shipping. Not that I would know anything about this kind of stuff - *you* are obviously one of those crazy prepper types, and with that extended supply of food you are obviously anti-government and a potential terrorist....

Definitely get on their mailing list.
Their prices are about or a little under market average, but they rotate their sales through the year, so if you find something that you want and you don't need it urgently, just keep an eye on it, and it will prolly go on sale at some point thru the year. They also have bulk sale price breaks (for #10 cans, six, for MREs, 18, etc). They also have their own label of FD and Dehydrated foods (Provident Pantry), although I haven't tried any of them yet....

No offense, but the food sounds disgusting. May I ask what you are prepping for? I am not trying to be rude or anything. I am seriously curious about it.

How are the MREs at emergency essentials? I want to get my mother a kit for a week's food. She needs it for hurricane season. Sometimes we can convince her to leave ahead of the season & stay with one of her kids, but this year I think she's staying. The trouble with FL hurricanes is all the flooding can prevent you getting out or getting access to gasoline if the stations electricity is out.
I think MRE are better for her than having to figure out how to water/heat etc food. This is just emergency backup. Well, except for the brownies if they turn out to be any good. I am guessing that will become her emergency snack!!

I think it would be better to stock up on food that the family knows and likes. Not much good to have a huge stash and then find out no one will eat it because it tastes horrible.
We keep extra cans of tuna, chicken, roast beef, beef stew, and chicken & dumplings on hand.
At least try one of the freeze dried packages before buying large quantities of it.
