I know that there is a thread that someone who either flips houses or rents them started about remodels and stuff. But I can NOT find it! So Mods, if you need to throw this in there, please do. My question: What gauge of thickness is a good one for a stainless steel sink? 22? 16? I'm sure that I could run to google, but I trust you all more. ;D

That person was likely 10horses2kids who was involved with that thread. Try sending him a PM.

It was the Home Improvement thread. I bumped it for Sam last week or so.

You almost definitely don't need 16 for your kitchen sink (and i would imagine your choices would be limited). If you're concerned you can always go 18 and have plenty of strength with still a high number of options.

We have cast iron, but FWIW when we were shopping other kinds the guy recommended getting the stainless sink insulated so that it wasn't as noisy.

I would go with the heavier kind (insulated) if you are going to have a garbage disposal.

almost40- if you're talking about me, then yes. Yes I am. LOL 2kids- thanks so much. I will be looking into these. Hoping within a year I can get my kitchen updated!! Thanks for taking time out of your day to help! hoops- thank you as well. It does seem the most common was 20. I was totally clueless as to what the gauge meant. skinnykids- Ohhhh. I bet that's pretty. If I had unlimited funds I would be all up on the copper one I seen. But it's almost 6k!!!

One more thing about kitchen sinks:
I have noticed that sometimes if I use the lighter (thinner) sink, when I've mounted the faucets, the faucets can "rock" forward and back a little. The faucet isn't loose, the metal of the sink can flex a little.
And while it works just fine, it "cheapens" the kitchen.
If you're going to go to the trouble of redoing the kitchen, the difference in cost of the sink is minimal.
That said, I usually get new sinks for free when I get new granite countertops installed!

I just ordered a graphite sink because I'm not a fan of stainless steel sinks. We'll see how it goes. Supposedly it's more stain, scratch, and heat resistant.

Interesting.
I've found that Bon Ami cleans up a stainless steel sink pretty well.
It's true that a SS sink will get little scratches over time. The Bon Ami can still make them shine.
Heat resistant? I've never had a problem with my stainless steel sink getting too hot. Maybe I'm missing somthing.
I'm assuming the graphite sink is a matte black? If it works for you, go for it!
