I get paid a monthly bonus based on monthly production from 2 departments. Since it's production based I know exactly what my bonus will be each month. However, the last 2 months I haven't received bonus from 1 of the departments. The timing coincides with a change in payroll companies.
I've always taken the mindset that bonus is extra, don't count on it, yada, yada, yada. But I'm thinking it's okay to reach out to the manager of the 2nd department and just ask if they have decided not to bonus me (which would be a bummer, but okay obviously) or if there is just a glitch somewhere. Does anyone see a big issue with this?

I oversee the payroll and I can tell you that mistakes can and do happen. I would definitely ask what happened because it very well have been an oversight.

Yes, definitely let someone know. I'm in charge of paying about 40-50 vendors and things do occasionally slip through the cracks - I always appreciate it when the vendors let me know when they haven't been paid for a while.

Does anyone see a big issue with this? You're a little too low-key here. No, it would NOT be OK for them to stop issuing a bonus to you with no advance notice or negotiation. Give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it's the payroll system, but ask for what's yours. Something on the order of, "Is your payroll system up and running 100%? I noticed my bonus was missing from the last pay."

Thanks folks--look like it's just a glitch, and will be all worked out.
I appreciate the feedback. I think I've slid really far into "just grateful I have a job" mentality.
