So many people once claimed to be offended by schools opening athletic events with a prayer that the government eventually made such recitals illegal. The government has likewise removed the Pledge of Allegiance from the American landscape because it pays homage to God. And so it is with several other historically imbedded American crucibles. Does anyone know how many lawsuits have been filed by Catholic organizations and institutions against the assault they see the government making on it through Obamacare? Has the media made a point of telling us? Or has the media made it point to withhold that information? Is it 1 lawsuit? 2 lawsuits? 5? 8? Would you believe 43? If that many lawsuits were filed against one single company or organization over a single point of contention, (in this case the 1st Amendment to the Constitution), wouldn't it be likely that the media would have something to say about it? "This lawsuit is about an unprecedented attack by the federal government on one of America's most cherished freedoms: the freedom to practice one's religion without government interference," it says on a special website created for the occasion. "It is not about whether people have access to certain services; it is about whether the government may force religious institutions and individuals to facilitate and fund services which violate their religious beliefs." patriotpost.us/opinion/arnold-ahlert/2012/05/24/catholics-vs-obama/

Not sure where you are henry but here in Washington State: RCW 28A.230.140 United States flag — Procurement, display, exercises — National anthem. Sorry, henry. I've already moved one of these started by palmbeachpaul. It has been said, several times, religious discussion doesn't go in the P&M forum. Every time we've allowed it, it's degenerated into a bruhaha between the religious folk and the non-believers. For that reason, this thread will be moved to the Religious Discussion thread. There, the relationship between religion and government may be discussed. Whether we like it, or not, this matter is about freedom to practice RELIGION.

Ike had Congress put God in the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954. This country seemed just fine for 178 years without it. Of course, it was only written in 1892 by a Christain Socialist, who had an interest in selling flags to schools, and who intentionally left out the word, "equality" because women and blacks were obviously not equal, so I don't much give a rat's ass what they do with it. www.oldtimeislands.org/pledge/pledge.htm

Who cares. The Catholic Church has been playing politics since the ringing of the very first church bell ... and in this country, they've been doing it with their fat tax exempt status.
If they were simply minding their own religious business and the government bullied its way into the rectory and began making demands, I would have more sympathy for them. But they aren't minding their own business so tough luck for them.
If they want to throw their hat into the political arena, they better get used to losing a few bouts.
