Well, to be fair school goes from 9:10am to 3:35 so about 6.5 hours. ;D
But yes, they get a morning recess, recess after lunch, and an afternoon recess. Their rewards for good behavior (as a class) are extra recesses so occasionally my DD will get 4 recesses in a day. Most of their fundraisers are physically oriented too (vs selling stuff). They really believe in them - I've had kids want to stay in with me for recess to practice reading and the teacher sends them out. She believes the kids need to burn energy so they can focus better. She's also an athlete herself so she's very pro recess.

We are on the areas where you could recess for classes so no place to recess kids.
