It's a copy/paste post. I doubt it took two hours to write it.

"I think it could be a novel. " I'm thinking anything that could take two hours to write will never be read by an EE'rs......I'm guessing she doesn't know her audience ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

All I could see was that the post I had worked the past two hours on was ruined. Thanks for nothing. lol....two hours? On a post in EE? Hell, I don't put that much time in to my paid work.

Well, my apologies, sir horse. I sometimes forget that newcomers to the site aren't familiar with "weird goings on". I should perhaps post a disclaimer that: - pranks are "distinctive", such as "redneck text" that obviously involve some degree of forethought and development. Error messages, "angry bear" server outages, pages loading slowly, randomly garbled text, pages half-loading, etc. are not pranks.
- pranks never alter the content of posts in any permanent way
- in the near future, I will add an "opt out of pranks" option to the user profile. Users who don't want to participate can preemptively opt out.
- pranks are obvious and will not target specific individuals (with the exception of admins, but that's between us
)
- pranks do not contain profanity, nudity, or any kind of vulgarity
- board-wide pranks are always accompanied by a thread associated with the prank, as was the case here
- angry PMs to moonbeam should be directed to me. This will result in your automatic, permanent opt-out status from all pranks.

theflyinghorse has been posting 'today in history' type threads for years now. that is the thread she was talking about. some interesting stuff in there, and yes, the formatting she does can be time consuming. i can understand why she'd be upset, thinking it was ruined after all the work she put into it.

All I can say is, it's a good thing some people weren't around for the April Fool's Day Avatar switcheroo last year when everyone's avatars got changed into weird looking creatures.....
...or the one where our Avatars were falling off of our posts and making the sound of breaking glass as they hit the bottom of the page - THAT one was Classic !!

Virgil put a lot of thought into changing our avatars to things that matched our online personalities.

"I'm sorry. I guess I just don't have the same sense of humor that the rest of you do. Especially since I had no idea what was going on. All I could see was that the post I had worked the past two hours on was ruined. Thanks for nothing. " Two hours?? What the hell were you writing, a term paper??? Miss Tequila--I'm a retired research librarian who did research for people all my adult working life. I love it.The Internet was a god-send for me. I retired 10 years ago but kept up my loves of researching varous subjects using the internet and history (my bachelor's degree). With my Today I history I visit 4-5 sites compiling a list of events that happened. I compile the list on a proboard that is no longer used by anyone but me and when I've spellchecked and checked vocabulary, etc. I copy and paste it on five different boards. I've been doing Today in History ever since 2006 (started on MSNBC).

The only prank other than this one I've been around for was the cute little critter that would magically appear on screen occasionally. I'm not sure if that is really a prank or just a temprorary feature.

I have a friend with an MLIS who does the same thing, Ms. Horse. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Again, apologies for upsetting your work. In future, I'll know to exempt you from pranks of this nature. P.S. Apologies for mistaking your gender.

lexxy, it was both a prank and temporary. it was designed to appear randomly, and make people think they were seeing things.

This reminds me of an old program that would take a text file and convert it to "jive".

That was the "Vulpin". ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/misc/vulpin.png) I always considered that prank a flop since aside from moon and Lassie (who I'd notified preemptively), nobody ever remarked on it. ( ETA: I recall now that Sugilite did.) I thought it was cute. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I remember quite a few comments made about the vulpian popping up between posts or from the side of the board. The randomness of it happening was so seldom though that a lot of people missed seeing it (even though I did catch it once while it was visible and re-posted the image).
