You telling me??? And it's not just one group, I've joined 3 different groups and they are either health nazis or there are 1001 allergies going on or combination of both. How hard is it to start your own group, looking for "kids without food issues?"

If it were up to ME, I wouldn't be bringing snacks at all. We get together for 2-3 hrs at a time, they are 3-4 yr old kids - they CAN go without food, trust me, I've seen it happen!!
I don't know what is all that obsession with bringing snacks anyway if it's just an afternoon activity or something.
I bring water for my kids when it's just me and them and so far, they haven't lost any weight or had any major issues

Actually hoops...peanut allergies are quite serious. With young children it's not always easy to make sure they don't cross-contaminate. Since I know peanut allergies can be life threatening, as a parent I would be ok with not packing peanut snacks. But anyhting else would be their problem, not mine.

Open wider Arch so hoops can shove some peanuts down your throat.

I have a difficult time believing that yogurt is really any better for you than ice cream. it has probiotic organisms that help the digestive system and it is high in calcium and protein. Ice cream is high in fat, sugar, and cholesterol.

Kids had peanut allergies way back when I was in grade school and they didn't have a separate table -- they had parents who taught them not to touch things with peanuts in them!

If it's not allergies, it's that the kids don't like it. You can't please everyone. Just bring a "snack plate" of cheese, saltines, fresh fruit and fresh veggies. Then the kids can take what they can eat, or what they like. Just make sure the food doesn't touch.
And yes, if kids have specific allergies, parents should be providing for their snacks. If it's that severe I wouldn't want to trust someone else.
We know a kid that can't eat protien. I feel horrible for him but I always make sure he has enough fruits and veggies to choose from.

That's terrible. If you know a child can collapse and DIE, then you wouldn't make some accomodations? A child with this type of allergy could easily pick up a cookie or something from another kid. Sheesh. My accomodation would be letting their parent know "You need to take care of your child and stop expecting ME to care for YOUR child". We're talking about playdates where parents are present, I wouldn't just leave big bowls of nut-containing foods around the house if they were coming over where I would be responsible for them all. I'm not going to plan my life under the assumption that other parents are irresponsible though, you'd go crazy.

I think that is reasonable for older children...but would a really young child (lena's kids ages) really understand that? We had a little girl in my oldest's preschool class with a life-threatening peanut allergy. I can't imagine the stress of being her mom. Because of this, she was taught that she was not allowed to ever eat food that was not given to her by her mom. I would still worry that she wouldn't truly understand what would happen if she did snatch a cookie or something else that might have had a peanut in it.

The only reason i have yogurt on hand is to take to work because my ice cream would met. I think i would rather have my kids eat the ice cream.

Some describe me as a picky eater now, and I was definitely one as a child, and I discovered that people shut up about your food proclivities if you mention you're allergic but they'll play 20 questions if you just say you don't like it. Maybe the parent decided to go with that if their kid really is a wimp about spicy food. Though I suppose one probably could be allergic to peppers.

Guess i should have said Tough Shite, you arent' my kid and walked away.

The fact that something is "serious" doesn't really play into whether I think parents should be responsible for it or not. In fact if anything I would argue it means parents should be even MORE responsible for monitoring their child. Again, we're talking about supervised playdates. If I'm inviting kids over to my house (which would be creepy since I don't have kids) I'd care enough to find out both what they were allergic to and what they liked to eat as a preference. I'm just not concerned about monitoring every other kid at a playdate with their parents present (which I've been to plenty actually even without kids as I lived with my nephews when they were young).

So mine is way better than yours since it has NO additives. So you can keep you ice cream, I'll keep my yogurt and call it healthier than ice cream ;D

We purposely bring obnoxious snacks... well I do. When Loop shops for snack duty I don't know what she buys. I went to a couple different stores so I could find baked whole wheat chips that were salt and sugar free (they were so bland it was insane), vegan ice cream sandwiches (surprisingly tasty!), cucumber and lemon Gatorade (I thought it was awesome, all the kids thought it was weird), and real dried fruit instead of fruit snacks. I was that parent. It was pretty fun.
Loop and the girls have banned me from ever handling snack duty again. It was heartbreaking... let me tell ya.
When friends come over to our house they get to snack on whatever we have in the house and if they don't like it they know where the door is. I'm not keeping a freezer full of pizza rolls and crap around just for the kid's friends.

Parents are still feeding their kids crap and trying to pretend it is healthy. My point is things that masquerade as being healthy are not really so.

If so did you make sure you went and brought inhalers for them just in case they needed them even if their parents would also be there. There's a big difference between "helping a kid having a problem" and "I'm going to be responsible for monitoring your health needs when your parents is standing right there".

I agree with this...and while I do think that it is up to the parents to look out for their children, if you are talking about young children who are not really aware of consequences I think the adults need to take extra precautions. I'm just thankful that neither of my kids have allergies.

There's a big difference between "helping a kid having a problem" and "I'm going to be responsible for monitoring your health needs when your parents is standing right there". The parents aren't standing right there if a child is in grade school. Does a child with a peanut allergy have any right to attend school? And, if so does the school not have the ability and responsibility to ensure adequate precautions for that child's safety? Again peanut allergy is a severe allergy. Most people use the term "allergy" as BS for why their kid is a spoiled, picky eater. Big difference. My kid isn't going to die if he accidentally eats gluten. But a kid with a peanut allergy very well could in the matter of minutes.

Cholesterol and anti cholesterol meds is a whole other scam but i will save that for another thread. I see nothing wrong with whole milk or sugar. I eat sugar and so do my kids. I do not them eat aspartame.
