I did it! After failing an attempt about two months ago, I was determined to get after it so I increased my work out weights and started hitting it hard. Last night I became determined that I could do it so after working my way up in weight, I loaded 400 on the bar and had a perfect lift! I was so pumped afterwards that I did a "victory" lap by doing 30 reps at 225lbs. I'm sure I'll pay for that tomorrow. I hit the scale at 197lbs last night, which put my lift just over 200 percent of my weight. Goal reached. Now I need to make another one.

Thanks, I know it's not a state record or anything, but it sure felt good and I needed to brag to someone. My quads are still burning a little this morning, but not that bad. My stretch marks hurt the worse, I guess I will need a little more lotion, I think the spread a little more during the workout.

Congratulations Tractor. It looks like you are getting to the top weights of most gyms.
Have you tried Mederma or similar products for the stretch marks?
My DH used to work out in a MPLS gym that was for the heavy, heavy lifters. You had to be able to bench hundreds or you didn't get into their area. DH said there was a lot of screamin' going on and that gym was not over utilized. He loved knowing he was rubbing elbows with some of the known wrestlers and strong man competitors. On the other side of the love was the hate of perfomance enhancers being used.

Just a quick post to brag a little since no one else cares. I set a goal of 430 lbs for my 43 birthday. I did it tonight with one week to spare.

Wow. Congratulations. Some one posted on FB. To be a doorman all you have to be is a d*ck and stand by the door. Likeness of two muscled up guys, arms crossed. Then came a reply of - Or a standing d*ck out the door.

Time to brag again. Turned 44 on Friday, did a relatively easy 440 lb squat last night. Feel like I could have done more. At this point I might make 500lbs by the time I'm 50.

I should add that after looking over my previous posts, I'm actually lighter than I was in the past. I'm down to 185 lbs and due to some diet modifications, should be down to 180 by Thanksgiving. It's amazing what a little less sugar will do.

I was trying to gain, in fact I made it up to 205 at one point. It's actually quite hard for me to gain, and even harder to maintain the weight. I decided I would just eat until I was full, work out and try to eat a "cleaner" diet. My body wants to be 185. I was eatting beyond full several times a day, it just became no fun, so I figured why keep fighting it. If I can gain and keep the weight, so be it.
Most people struggle with squats, I made a concious decision to love squats. It's worked for me.

455lbs on Saturday, two weeks ahead of my 45th birthday. Time to start getting ready for next year, I wonder if I will ever hit 500lbs?

Good job, Tractor.
I did think though this thread was going to be about someone who ate too much fiber over time.

Is that a one time max? I'm on a compound lift program where I increase the weight every five weeks if I pass a test. It's for beginners. Tomorrow is my test to see if I pass cycle two, I.e. Tenth week. For squats I need to do 2sets of 145, 12 each with perfect form. I have a ways to go!!! Is it also bad my squat isn't more than my bench, which is also at 145!

455 pounds that's incredible! I assume that's a 1 time max? I've worked out and been an athlete all my life, but at the ripe old age of 40 decided to become a serious lifter. On a program of compound lifts three days a week, and I get to increase the weight every five weeks if I pass a "test". Today is actually my test for cycle 2 (so 10th week) and squats have me nervous as they are definitely my weakest. I need to do 2 sets of 12 at 145 lbs, perfect form going parallel. It's sad cause my bench is also at 145. I hate my genetics for giving me twig legs, but I'm working hard at it. Thanks for the inspiration!

Morris,
Yeah, that was a one time max. I have been in the gym for quite a few year, with few goals other than to try and do more. I decided a few years ago that since most people don't do legs, I would learn to enjoy them. I like to hit them pretty hard and have learned how to increase my weight on squats over time. I bought special shoes to keep my feet stabil, use knee wraps anytime I get over 400 lbs and work hard on keeping proper form. With my last lift, I didn't even use a spotter, but I know I should have.
All I can suggest it to keep it up and don't get discouraged. I get quite a few comments from others at the gym, since I'm just a little middle aged man keeping the college boys in check. Everybody like to brag about their bench, and most use terrible form. You will get more weight up faster if you use good form and stick with it. I benched 340 last month, so I can keep the 20 year olds in line there as well. I really do it just for fun, and to burn calories so I can eat whatever I want.
