Really? I think of Catholicism as a conservative religion.
Catholic preists, nuns, lay people support the communist groups in south and central America. they are frequently getting murdered by right wing death squads down there. the Kennedys are(devout) Catholic. Most of the church based illegal immigrant sanctuaries are Catholic.

Dom, I've had enough of your constant attacks on Paul, and your general condescension. You've just about worn out your welcome, permanently.

I don't suppose you noticed this wasn't in the religion section, but politics. Freedom of religion- the First Amendment is a major component of the political philosophy of the United States, it's a political issue, and this discussion belongs in on the politics board in my opinion. This is the second discussion I've had hurled over here for no good reason.

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

Yes, paul, I noticed. MSNBC doesn't have a Religion category. Here, on these forums, the thread belongs in the Religious Discussion forum, as it's a discussion regarding religion ... the Catholic church, to be exact. Right now, the Catholic church has an issue with the government. There's no threat to the freedom of religion, per se. Because the government is the target of the Catholic church's ire at the moment does not make it political. You've tried with a couple of posts to get posters to keep it political, but that's not going to happen, as you've found out. The Catholic church believes their religious beliefs are being thwarted, so they're suing. That's ALL about religious beliefs, paul.
You're welcome to your opinion. I told you before, you can discuss it with moonbeam. Right now, the thread stays right here.

Really? Tell that to the gay population who are being told by state governments to do or not to do things for no good reason (i.e. religious ones).
If religion wants to be protected by the 1st Amendment, then it's high time that religion *respects* the 1st Amendment.
The next time I hear some asshat quote Leviticus as the reason for a state amendment, I'm going to throw up.

The Catholic organizations suing the government are not suing the government on religious grounds. They aren't debating scripture, but the Constitution and the law.

Medical care, adoption and employment law are not religious matters.
This is a waste of the courts time.
