i was wondering if any of you had any experience with packaged diet/ exercise books, systems and videos. Which ones did you find most effective? I recently saw a system called Fatburning Furnace and it sounds intriguing. I would really like to streamline to get the most effective workout rather than spending a lot of time in the gym and not accomplish as much. I guess i want to workout smarter rather than harder. The same with diet. So, did any of those work for you?

I have 10 Minute Trainer. It did give me some results and may have also contributed to me developing sciatic nerve problems. As for eating/dieting, the only things that have ever worked are Weight Watchers and tracking my food online. I don't do diets, but WW and food tracking will help you to slowly make better food choices. Good luck!

I like walking fast-paced 30+ minutes/day. Music is a MUST for me...makes it more enjoyable and helps it go by quicker. I just bought hand weights to add to my routine. With the weather being so good this year, I was doing it throughout the winter here. I also started biking when the roads were clear. With the weather being hot lately, I have combined walking with mowing. We have lots of property and I like to push the mower when I can. I have a few exercise DVDs I can put on the tv in the cool basement on really hot days too. With planting flowers, etc., I am bending a lot. I try to eat whole grains, fresh fruit, fish, chicken and lots of veggies...in the summer, I eat lighter meals and drink more water. I can honestly say, I eat few fast food meals...I am not into batter and breading and grease so much anymore. I DO read labels for nutritional content...fat, calories, fiber, etc. My concern at my age is to feel good, eat heart-healthy meals and take vitamin and mineral supplements. I do enjoy red wine in moderation. I am not planning on being a size zero. If I have a craving for something, I WILL eat it!

I don't weigh myself as often as I used to...I can tell by how I feel in my clothes if I need to watch it.

Crossfit was by far and away the best work out routine i have ever done. as for diet, eat in moderation. and don't eat too little. i hit a plataeu, and had to add calories to my diet in order to lose weight.
you don't need to join a crossfit gym, they post the Work Out of the Day and give tips on how to modify some of the exercises, lighten the recommended weight, etc to make them easier...like there is no way i am doing handstand pushups....or "L" pull ups. it isn't going to happen.
also the work outs did not take much time, but took a lot out of you.

I think i may be eating too little, which seems counterintuitive but i need to add more of the right foods. I am trying to increase my water, veggies, fruit and so forth. I like to do cardio and was doing a solid hour of cardio on the treadmill, elliptical and bike. But, i strained my knee and that seems to get aggravated if i overdue the cardio. So, this week, i am trying to come up with a new routine and i want an overall body workout. I cut down to 30 min of cardio and am doing weight training and some stretches, situps and so forth.

I absolutely must have music. I have my Ipod loaded with my songs and my Dr. Dre Beats!

I use a calorie counter on my phone and it really keeps me in line. Being accountable to myself works! I started working out on the elliptical and weights and doing pilates on the in-between days. I started walking/jogging a few weeks ago and Im starting to like it. I got lazy with the weights and pilates so i really need to start again! Oh yeah, i also take Wednesday yoga class.
Im down 20 pounds, for what it's worth.

Eating well and running/lifting are what I do. I actually was at a good weight (same since high school/low end of normal BMI for my height) and running has made me gain 5 pounds (basically all muscle in my legs) from doing 20/25 miles a week. Eating is definitely my downfall (and my husband's desire to eat out a lot). I recommend eating well (depending on your weight 1200-1500 calories/day, though that is just a generalization), drinking a lot of water, and exercising.
I run 5 days a week, lift two of those days, cross train another day, and have two days of rest (though I am looking to start swimming on my off days). It just sucks that a gym with classes/a pool is 20 miles in the opposite direction of the 40 miles I drive for work!

Women's Health Book of 15-Minute exercise routines is what I am using now. They also have the Women's Health Big Book of Exercises.
What I have observed and this set of exercises won't work for me is the girls who run 5K several times a week and do Pilates are slim and trim. They play tennis or golf several times a week. Plus, they started young to stay trim and would reduce eating if their weight went up a lb. or two.

i use a modified version of the body-for-life exercise routine...when i first found their website, it was all about the exercise, now it's commercial trying to hawk their products but the routine is solid...
as far as diet goes, i just try to eat healthy and use moderation...life would be too boring to not enjoy some foods just don't over indulge...at least not too often anyway...lol

I have the basic BFL somewhere and the aerobic circuit. I don't have the diet.
One of my first training centers had BFL but I was stubborn and did my usual routine after playing 18 holes of golf as it was easier than thinking every training session. Those were the good old days.

I agree that CrossFit is excellent for fitness. Lost 1/2 stone while exercising 1/2 as much as I used to when I spent 6 - 8 hours a week doing group exercise classes. I've cut down on some processed foods and refined sugars too, and am eating more protein. I don't follow a paleo diet though.

I am trying to cut out soda and sweets. Today I walked/ran on the treadmill for 3 miles and did the elliptical for 1 mile. Tomorrow I will do 3 miles on the elliptical and 1 mile on the treadmill - just to mix it up a bit. I have been eating more fruits, veggies, and protein.

10-Day Transformation has worked the best for me. I was in a routine working out, jogging a lot. I lost 20 pounds but after spraining my ankle I couldn't work out like I was used to. I gained 18 back in no time. All that hard work!!! It was so frustrating. Then a friend introduced to to the 10-day. I had to rid my body of the toxins. That was the key. Anyway, I've lost 24 lbs so far!!!
