chip for better gas mileage?

Anyone ever installed one of those chips that is supposed to boost you gas mileage? I talked to a friend about it last night, and he seemed to think they were a good idea. I'd never heard of them before. I know some of them will voice a manufacture's warranty, but I'm curious if they really work. He said they were first used for big trucks (diesal) that towed things. They would help boost the truck when it needed extra power. I'm just curious if they are worth the money, and if so, which brand is best. Can always use a little boost

Thanks for the input Rick. I had decided it wasn't worth messing with insurance, warranties, etc. but it's nice to have the same opinion as you.

The only chips I am familiar with are cow chips. Sorry...
