It's a new development. Five years ago they put in a zodiaq countertop for us and it was fabulous. This time around it's been hellish and we are going to pay more for better customer service. We've shelled out 4k just so the contractor will do a template. Except they won't. We've sent in paperwork, gotten samples, and they won't commit to doing a template until we've agree to the exact design (color, edge, backsplash). Hell, freaking, hello - it would be easier if you came out to our house, showed us some samples, and did some freaking work before I sent you more money. I'm done. I will pay more per square foot for a company that offers better service.

Wow, I bummed to hear that. I was thinking of going with them the next time we re-carpet. I'll give them a chance, but consider myself forewarned thanks to you.

I'm very disappointed. I called to speak to them, got put on hold, disconnected, called back and the new rep is saying there is nothing they can do because it's a contractor.

I'm still trying to cancel my membership and be refunded the 4k for the countertop. I'm on hold. Strange how no one can do anything.

Exactly, its not Costco itself, but a sub-contractor. I had something similar happen with a sub-contractor of Home Depot. The trick is getting the right person on the phone (someone from costco who manages that contract) and once you do, the sub will be forced to make it right.

They said they will speak to their vendor. I was on the phone for two hours and that's the best I got. What I really wanted was a refund and to cancel my membership but they couldn't do that. Hmm.

Did you pay for this on your credit card? If so complain to them for failure to provide services paid for, even if it won't hold up, extra pressure from CC will help them get their butts moving.

Okay, so I was going to come on here and stand up for a company I heart (more for their corporate plan and structure than products/service since I don't have a membership as a single lady), but I can't do it. Sorry for your frustration Anne.
I can be a super b, but when someone tells me they can't accommodate a reasonable request in a customer service situation, I immediately ask to speak to their supervisor. Often they are right, they can't give me what I want, but someone else can.
I hope they do right by you.

I don't know if Costco can/will do anything about a payment you made directly to a subcontractor, but they can refund your membership in an instant, so I don't understand who you are talking to that would say they can't. Are you talking to your local store manager, or corporate?
Did you sign a contract or agreement with the contractor? Did you use a credit card to pay them? Was $4K the cost of the whole job & why would you pay up front?
Costco is very high end on their service & member satisfaction commitment, so it sounds like you are talking to the wrong people. Are you being extremely upset when you talk to them (excitable) or something?

I don't know if Costco can/will do anything about a payment you made directly to a subcontractor, but they can refund your membership in an instant, I made the entire 4k payment through Costco's website. I called their customer service line and was told that they couldn't help me because it was Costco.com. They bumped it up to their supervisor and had the vendor call me. We've been emailing, scanning, etc. back and forth for a month now. Now the vendor says that they have no problem coming out here to show samples, pick edges and backsplash, and pay. It's a resolution of a sort. We'll see.

If no resolution, dispute the credit card payment.
