I used on vacation fund to pay off our HELOC. I guess I wasn't keeping good enough tabs on what all that money in our savings account was earmarked for. My husband bought the plane tickets, and I have to tap the HELOC to pay the credit card. It feels like I'm borrowing to go on vacation - but I think I'm just undoing my payment, right?

As long as there isn't a different rate on the newly withdrawn money, then it's completely a case of no-harm-no-foul

I think it can be characterized as a 1031 exchange.

Don't we have a wooden spoon somewhere with Thymes name on it? Nope, this is Warm and Fuzzy YM. Talk of a HELOC, CCs and a vacation but not a single mention of cat food later in life.

Thyme, you will be forgiven for your deed if you tell us where you are going.

Thyme, you will be forgiven for your deed if you tell us where you are going. And send us all postcards.

Wait a minute - a new car AND a vacation??? Someone should strip you off your YM card. Those kind of things are unheard of in YM-La-la land

Meh - the cobbler's children have no shoes.
The Northeast. Do you really want postcards from somewhere you live or nearly live?

Of course I do. It's not a bill in the mailbox, so it makes me happy.

Maybe thyme has already bought stocks in cat food making companies. So she isn't worried any more?

Going to the northeast doesn't qualify as a vacation.

Going to the northeast doesn't qualify as a vacation. She lives in Phoenix AZ, qq. So for her it does.

I thought of our "old" car as "the new car" until we bought the one last year. My "old" car is now 9 years old. So, my bad frame of reference helps me control my spending (on cars anyway.)

I flipped the bird - I thought that was what was considered waving in NJ. No?
