Hi all, I know some of you all are planning on doing public service loan forgiveness and I wanted to keep you informed about how it's going for me. - I filled out and had my agencies verify my information in the form Mid had previously shared www.equaljusticeworks.org/ed-debt/students/public-service-loan-forgiveness/track-your-progress
- Once I submitted the forms and they verified my employment, my loans were transferred from Direct loans (horrible customer service) to FedLoan servicing (so far, great customer service).
- I just received notification about how many of my payments have counted towards the 120 payments needed for forgiveness. I graduated before IBR existed so unfortunately, not all of mine count. I will continue getting these annually/whenever I send it employment verification forms (e.g. if I switch jobs). This is not quite as nice as the running list on the old direct loan website, but it's better than nothing. Plus, while it's a paper form, it's at least saved in my paperless mailbox, so I can access it online.
I recommend getting these forms in now, so everything's in order and you won't have to scramble to do them when you think you have all your payments in. I switched agencies, and it was a pain getting my form verified by my previous employer. Hope this helps!

So, you need to make 120 payments to achieve "forgiveness".? Does your employment time count as a certain number of payments?

You have to make 120 separate monthly payments under the income based payment plan to request forgiveness. You just have to be employed at a public service employer (e.g. public sector or non-profit) when you make the payments, apply for forgiveness, and obtain the forgiveness.
