the insurance company came by to look at the house yesterday. They left a note saying that they will drop our coverage if the driveway, walkway, and shingles aren't fixed in 90 days. The walkway and shingles aren't too bad, but the driveway will need to be dug out and completely replaced. We were told to expect that to be a couple thousand dollars. So much for saving a little money back from the closing.... wow....my insurance company has never come out to look at any of the houses I've owned (other than the one time when I reported a claim). Isn't that something they should have done before issuing the policy?

It's not unusual if this is the first house they are insuring. My insurance agent did the same thing when we switched carriers.

My neighbor's insurance company threatened to drop him for not having railings up on his porch. Nevermind that the boards were rotted through and posed a much bigger safety hazard. He went off on them and they dropped him anyway for being "abusive" to their agent. I hope you get it all worked out Jenny.

yeah - I dragged it up again. Suck it! We've done the following so far: refinished the floors removed sprinkler and old alarm system spackled and patched most holes took wallpaper down in the bathrooms TORE DOWN THE WOOD PANELING (there was drywall behind it!!! ) purchased all but DS's area rug We still have to finish patching and painting. We move 95% of our furniture on Saturday. I guess we'll just put our stuff in the middle of each room, cover it, and then paint.

That should work. DH and I didn't paint the LR/DR until we had been in the house for over a year. I was wondering why he was being so gung-ho about it and then I realized that we were hosting the SuperBowl Party again and I think he didn't want everyone ragging on him for not doing anything for a year.

well we can't wait that long. DS's first birthday party will be in early August, so it all has to be done before then. Wow, I can't believe how fast my munchkin is growing up.

I know, right?! Also, we got a quote about fixing our driveway. It needs to be completely repaved - $3000. Our bank accounts are crying right now. I'm going to try to get another company to come look at it. In no way did I expect the driveway to cost more than refinishing the floors in our entire house (minus the bathroom and kitchen).

You are kicking butt on your house! I can't wait to see when you are done. I won't recognize the place! Sorry to hear about the driveway needing to be replaced. Didn't somebody <<cough, cough>> suggest you keeping that $5,000 you had?

LOL POM!!!! so we're living at the new house now. DS's room is painted and looks great. And he slept through the night without issue!!! I stayed up scrubbing the master bathroom so we could use it. it still needs to be sanded and painted. we're almost done cleaning the kitchen. DH's unlce finished spackling our bedroom, so we may start painting it today.
