The wild things roared their terrible roars, and gnashed their terrible teeth, and rolled their terrible eyes, and showed their terrible claws.

I didn't know what a "Caldecott" award was until i read his book. That is an award for children's books. Great books!

As much as we loved Where the Wild Things Are, we loved Chicken Soup with Rice more. ODS even illustrated and recited part of it for a school talent show.
RIP, Maurice.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh...I hadn't heard this sad news. That was my kids' FAVORITE childhood book, "Where The Wild Things Are." I used to read it to them by flashlight at night in homemade forts with them in their jammies and under their blankets. I have told many a poster on old MSN that on my headstone I want engraved the words, "I'll eat you up, I love you so." My family is aware of my request. RIP Mr. Sendak

Sigh... RIP childhood. Where the Wild Things Are and In The Night Kitchen are favorites of mine. My Mom used to always read WTWTA to us and I have great memories of her reading that and Happy Birthday Moon (Frank Asch). The Rosenbach Museum and Library in Rittenhouse Square is a major repository of his artwork and illustrations. I highly recommend going in you're ever in Philly! www.rosenbach.org/

And there's a song version of it. I remember learning it from PBS or something when I was like 5. I swear I was the only person who knew that.
