I don't know how long it would take to get trained in one of these positions, however, the way I see it is that the business starved the govt of jobs for a while(30 yrs) because all they have been doing is taxing them and selling BS to the people. We are all going to end up servicing our own economies, which means that these could be very long term positions. Robots that can fix other robots are a long way off and there is that whole space travel thing coming up that will require MANY precision parts. That was nice of him to offer $10.00 an hour before taxes for such " highly skilled " labor.

I agree, $10-12 a hour for part time work, with training provided, is a great place to start a long term career; it's not as easy as sitting around which seems to be the problem. It's going to be interesting over the next three years to see how all these young liberal arts grads do as they start to strap on the work boots.

There was a news program on tv, a while back, maybe one year ago on this issue. A couple of small manufacturing business owners were interviewed and they had job openings that they could not fill, but not for a lack of applicants.
The problems were the applicants had very poor education, particularly in high school math(geometry, alegebra, trig, etc). Manufacturing jobs of today are not grunt, repetitive work as they were 60 years ago. One requires a good basic math foundation that used to be provided by having a high school education. They also indicated that employees needed to have and be willing to work at various jobs in the facility, based on the work load.

Hey, here's an idea....why not hook these people up with damnitagain. He says that he's in the chemistry business and that doesn't require much math skill......
