In the local paper, you can write comments to the family of a deceased person. So if you live far away and can't get home for funeral/visitation, you can send condolences to the family. What I don't understand is the need for people that don't even know you to write comments. Especially when it is for a child. For example 'Jane Smith 4 months passed away January 20, 2011.' And someone will write 'God needed an angel so he took your baby.' Or 'RIP little girl'. WHY? ?

Because people have too much time on their hands.
Or, because they think they understand other's pain and they believe a total stranger reaching out and offering kind words will comfort those who have lost.
I agree that if my daughter died and someone wrote the God needed an angel line to me, I would likely hunt them down and punch them.

A baby's funeral and death has to be one of the most painful events on the planet[to me] ....to see a small coffin at a funeral service is heart wrenching.
Their statements may be their way of reaching out to TRY to comfort another even if it's not done eloquently.
