Bradley Manning-WikiLeaks Connection Not Found: Military Investigators U.S. military investigators have been unable to find a direct link between jailed Army PFC Bradley Manning and WikiLeaks, reports NBC News. However, the alleged source of the WikiLeaks diplomatic cables did download files illegally maintain military investigators. Reports NBC: The officials say that while investigators have determined that Manning had allegedly unlawfully downloaded tens of thousands of documents onto his own computer and passed them to an unauthorized person, there is apparently no evidence he passed the files directly to Assange, or had any direct contact with the controversial WikiLeaks figure. WikiLeaks founder Assange has repeatedly stated that he had no contact with Manning prior to "reading his name in a magazine." WikiLeaks has, however, provided $15,000 towards Manning's legal fees, and Assange has referred to him as a "political prisoner." Manning has been in the media spotlight recently as stories of his prison conditions have emerged. He is currently being held at the Marine base in Quantico, Virginia, in solitary confinement. The military has strongly denied that Manning's detention conditions are punitive or "torture," as has been alleged. www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/24/bradley-manning-wikileaks-_n_813445.html

Afterall this Pfc is complaining constantly about how poorly he is being treated in the Quantico Brig.... He doesn't have access to a PC so he can post on this message board along with his supporters here; nor is he able to watch Rachel Maddow, Ed Shultz, or Chris Matthews on MSNBC News or download the Huffington Post, or the Daily Beast.... I guess things are really tough for this Army Pfc...

because he "allegedly unlawfully downloaded tens of thousands of documents onto his own computer and passed them to an unauthorized person". Yea but left wing zealots claim Pfc Manning is a hero in their eyes..Pfc. Bradley Manning is Next Hero of Organized LeftAnthony Ventre Anthony Ventre Mon Dec 20, 5:01 pm ET .COMMENTARY | having turned their attention momentarily from the deification of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, the progressive-left is now expanding the myth of Bradley Manning's "torture" at the hands of the military. The Pentagon flatly denies the truth of a Salon article making that allegation, calling the allegations of mistreatment of a prisoner "blatantly false," according to the Christian Science Monitor . The Huffington Post recently picked up on the weakly sourced news item by Salon's Glenn Greenwald and dutifully amplified it. Greenwald's Salon story claims that Manning is being held "under conditions that constitute cruel and inhumane treatment and, by the standards of many nations, even torture." There is torture in the Salon story, but it mainly concerns the grammar and the sourcing of Glenn Greenwald's writing. The gold mine of information in the Greenwald article is heavy on opinion, short on facts and relies heavily on the "standards of many nations" for its credibility. And what's that about "even torture?" If Greenwald believes Manning is being tortured, he shouldn't be too embarrassed to say so directly. Pfc. Manning is confined to a Quantico cell, under arrangements that are not cushy, but are standard Marine brig conditions for maximum custody. Since Manning is accused of stealing sensitive and classified documents, and giving them to WikiLeaks, it's unclear why a Salon writer would question Manning's confinement at Quantico and a previous two months in a Kuwait military jail. Manning is still a member of the military, subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The "torture" scenario is popular with the left-liberal fringe, which has been largely silent about the water boarding of Khalid Sheikh Muhammad. Opinion is still sharply divided in the U.S. as to whether water boarding constitutes "torture" but the practice has been abandoned. The Huffington Post does no better than Salon with its sourcing, quoting Greenwald, and a spokesman for Manning's legal defense fund. Yet, it repeats the story of "solitary confinement" and quotes the spokesman as saying Manning is "very annoyed" at his confinement. Even the "Birdman of Alcatraz" never described himself as "annoyed." Manning is a "maximum custody detainee," according to the Yahoo/CSM story. Marine Col. Dave Lapin describes an austere environment but one in which Manning is permitted to watch television for an hour a day and to read newspapers. Lapin told the Christian Science Monitor that "being in a cell by yourself doesn't mean you're in solitary confinement." One inaccuracy in the Salon story by Greenwald is admitted by the writer. Greenwald posted an update on his Manning article, admitting that he erroneously reported that Manning was restricted from watching TV and reading newspapers. He calls the error a "fairly minor dispute in the scheme of things." Considering the damage done to U.S. security and world diplomatic confidences, there is good reason to manage and limit Manning's contacts with anti-U.S. groups outside the Marine brig. Leftist lawyer Lynne Stewart was convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for illegally passing messages from jailed terrorist bomber Omar Abdel Rahman in 2005. Abdel Rahman is also known as the Blind Sheikh , currently serving a life sentence in a U.S. prison for organizing bomb plots against the United Nations, FBI New York headquarters, and other New York landmarks. While Manning is not accused of bomb plots, U.S. authorities believe he has helped WikiLeaks wage technology warfare against the U.S. military. news.yahoo.com/s/ac/20101220/us_ac/7443268_pfc_bradley_manning_is_next_hero_of_organized_left
