Honey- I'm not sure. I tend to feel that it may not be in your best interest to take a temp job that will not convert if it will wipe out your savings. I am in the same boat with permanent disability.

I must be at the bottom or top of the page- I can't find me to add this- I have at least 4 NS this month! I have to have an A1C test too. Lovely.

Yesterday was a spend. Not terrible, but I went to browse in a discount store while killing time between work appointments, and ended up buying a couple things that I liked, but didn't really need.
Today is a CS, only got a couple freebies at CVS, and picking up our quarter cow tonight but that's already planned and budgeted for. I got a coffee and Danish this morning, but since I'm within my allotted "no more than twice a week", I'm good. This was my first coffee/frappe this week. I didn't eat lunch out at all this week either and I'm off now til Monday.

Well, I'm kind of bummed about today's progress. I called Student Family Housing and it looks like they have a wait list for the first time every (go figure). Given how many people already on the wait list and the number of apartments, it is highly unlikely we can get a spot. I then looked around on the internet and did find a few options for places but they are in the $1000-1200 range. That's about what we're paying now so at least it won't increase dramatically and we will get quite a lot more space but I was really looking forward to finding somewhere cheaper. I did find some $800-$900 options but they seemed less than desirable and the people were not very nice on the phone.

NSD 2/31
Honey- My appointment is 5/18/0212. Thanks to you I am developing a good set of questions to ask.
I still think I would hesitate to go temp when it would impact you that much, financially and time-wise. Especially if you will be hosting foreign students again this year.
I have to anticipate the same kitty expenses next fall and am not looking forward to it. I am walking like a zombie today. Last night both kitties were totally ensorceled by a miller moth that got trapped in the house last night. They were totally frozen and intensely focused on the stupid moth until it moved and they went into a complete frenzy, jumping all over me to get at it just as I would be drifting into sleep. They are both snoozing in the sunshine now preparing for tonight I am sure.
Dakota--I made another batch of yogurt last night. I am still stunned at how simple it is!

sbcali - Have you looked at rental houses? The town I went to college in had horrible apartment options. Pretty much everyone rented a house or duplex with a group of people. Actually, the house I rented with DH before we got married was less than what I was paying for my apartment right before we got married. Just something to look into.

Mutt: I haven't gone the rental house option yet only because we're hoping to get a "community" type place since we won't know anyone when we get there. I've had a little more luck right after I posted and found two options under $1K with utilities so I'm feeling a bit better about our options. I'm a tad type A so it is so hard to pic a place without seeing it or even knowing where we're going. If DH doesn't like any of the 3 or 4 options I found today I'll probably start looking at houses, though I'm guessing since we're not moving until August I'll have to wait until at least June for that.

A1C test is supposed to measure your long term blood sugar over several months- approximately 2-3. I have pre-diabetic reactive hypoglycemia and have always been low so the doctor is being very proactive now that I have a high reading. Diabetes runs on both sides of my family and she believes tat I can be treated with diet and exercise since I have never tended to have high sugars- but she wants an A1C test to see if this is just a fluke reading or not. Also a high A1C will give her the clearance with the insurance company to get me back on a glucometer for testing.

Muttley - Sorry about your friend from church. I understood what you meant about being reminded about what is really important.
Rocky - This last Temp position was definitely Temp only as it was for a specific department's project. I am open to Temp-to-Perm positions. My frustration there is those I have interviewed for have not panned out.
sbcalimom - Where are you moving to? I have friends and family all over the country and if you are going to one of those areas I would be willing to contact them and ask about housing options.
startsmart - Right now the budget shortfall from Unemployment only and the 80% payback of my COBRA payment leaves a short fall of about $400 each month. The balance of my severance pay would cover that for six months before I would need to dip into the balance of my Tax Refund.
Dental problems - So I had my teeth cleaned today and next week will be meeting with the dentist to determine what dental work needs to be done next and the order of the work. I am hoping that the molars which I have already had root canals on are still stable enough for crowns. I did not get the crowns at the time because I could not afford them.
However, I have a plan ..... if these two teeth can be crowned it will be about $450 per crown after insurance. I am waiting for a check from the state for the three months of COBRA reimbursement I was finally approved for - that will be $1,312. Which I would use to pay for the crowns. I could have the option of placing the bill on credit and paying it off in four months.
I know there are some people who would say that I should not be spending money on these at all, however my thinking is this. I still have insurance, the $1300 has already been "spent" out of my budget, and not dealing with a major dental issue will just lead to additional dental and health problems down the line.
DUI - For this month and August I will get a fifth week of unemployment which I am hoping to be able to transfer directly into my savings.
CraigsList - I have started listing some things for sale. These are items that I have been culling from cupboards and closets for a while that I either no longer need, use or want.
Today I sold a large bolt of fabric that I purchased several years ago for a project that I never started, since I changed my mind about color scheme and style. So that is an extra $250 I can put into my emergency cash on hand - not in my savings account.

update; 9 NSD, 9 NEO, $100 in savings. I don't think there will be any more put into the savings because I need to pay the electric and any monies I get will go to that bill. I need an additional $230 for the electric by the 17th. After that I will put any free money into the savings, get my hair cut, again, and get a wet mop for the floor, again. I am leaning to getting a steam mop/sweeper. Since I have the money in the savings, I can get it without damaging any expenses.

Update: 3 NSDs and 4 CSDs Seems that I am having more CSDs than NSDs this month. Things work out that way at times.
Honey -- No advice for you regarding the job. You have to weigh the pros and cons and make the best decision concerning your circumstances. Good job on selling the fabric. I am sure that as you continue to sort through your items that you will locate other things that no longer serves your needs that will be a treasure for someone else.
Dakota -- I can't believe that mini-D is four. He like the other babies on the thread is getting so grown up.
Lilacs aren't around my area. They don't grow well in the conditions I live in. However, I did read that the blueberries are coming in early this year and the strawberries are already out.
Bedtime for me. Will check in when I get the chance.

Shelia & MK- We are thinking of heading up that way for vacation in June. Probably spending a couple days in Minneapolis. We'll be coming up I-35, what would you recommend we see/do. We'll have about6 or 7 days to do things. Also looking for recommendations on places to tent camp.

busy day and a CSD for me (spent only cash). Lots going on but I have to fess up about my best/worst typo ever. Thankfully I found it before it went out live on my site. "I have man interests and hobbies" .... MANY interests and hobbies blue's little brother already commented that it was a good thing I found and fixed it otherwise I might attract the wrong type of business lol

Honey - We are in a similar situation with DH and the dentist. No, it isn't the ideal time for it, but at the rate he is going he'll end up needing more teeth pulled (has had 2 in the last 6 months) and with dentures if he doesn't get them taken care of. You have to take care of those things.
Thanks for the thought about our friend. His visitation is tonight in a town about an hour away. The funeral is tomorrow afternoon at church. I'm going to give DH a call and see if we want to go up there the same time as some othe friends from church (they live about half way between us and the funeral home).
startsmart - LOL. Thanks for the laugh.

Honey - Thanks! And no worries about them being misdirected. Lil' Smokey will be excited; he loves not only getting mail but anything from the NS ladies. Dakota - Thanks for passing along the box tops.
Right now I'm in the middle of getting things organized and bought for Lil Smokey's 8th birthday. This year should be fairly easy as we're having a combined bday for he and my nephew. My DNephew will be 1 on the 25th and Lil' Smokey's is Memorial Day this year. My sister & I figured that DNephew will not even realize that he is sharing the day. And we're having it at our other sister's house b/c she has a pool - hopefully it will be good weather!

Yesterday was a spend. Foodsaver had a great deal on bags. For $35 I got 6 boxes of bags/rolls, with the rolls it will be over 100 bags. Over a year's worth. So 0.35 or less per bag. I know some people have good luck with ziplocks, but I don't. Since I've been using the foodsaver I haven't had to throw away any frozen meat due to freezer burn. So to me it is worth it. I figure the if the machine last for 3 years, machine & bags costs me on average $4 a month. That is assuming that the 6 boxes only last a year, but that is probably closer to 20 months worth. (I know I have about 1/2 a roll from the first big set I purchased I think in the fall of 2010.) Muttley- Sorry about your friend. You are just having a rough time right now. Singlemom- If you PM me with his first name I'll send it addressed to him.

All the kiddos on this thread are getting so old!! Good thing muttley and I are providing a few more So DH is kind of getting recruited for a new position at his company. The guy can't technically recruit him because he knows Blue's project team really loves/needs/wants him, but the guy also really wants Blue on his side of things, so he told him about the position. It's a more active, sales/programming type job that will be more on the cutting edge of the products the company produces. And it has more possibility for management track, rather than software development. So this is right up blue's alley, and is what he's going to school for, and it's all very exciting. Very stressful too, as he's got class and the baby stress. But I'm just so proud of him. He submitted his resume last night and immediately got responses and is setting up interviews with the involved parties for next week. Apparently they've been trying to fill this position for a while and haven't found anyone they like yet. It'll be such a cool thing if he gets it. He can still work from home, but will still have to travel, probably a bit more than he has been for this position he has now (but not for 1-2 years, he is assured). I'm not sure if it's a lateral move, pay wise, or what, but if it makes him happier, I'm all for it. I'm not asking for job juju, because he doesn't NEED the job, but just wanted to share. He's so modest all the time and I just love seeing him recognized for all his hard work. Proud wifey over here, even if he doesn't get it.

CS today. That puts me at 5 CS, 4 NS and 2 Spend. Just got a few groceries, only spent a little over $10. I actually made $31 today on a couple things I sold, so, that was a nice bonus. I think I lost some cash somewhere today though so I'm pretty bummed about that...
Spent a few hours cleaning and opening my camper. I'm whooped. I'm too old for this hard labor crap. I'm so sore I can barely move, and planning on cleaning out the garage and basement tomorrow. Looks like Aleve will be my best friend this weekend!

Congrats azmom.
It has been a spendy week, but other than doctor's co-pays it has all been out of our fun money. Last night, we had Subway after the visitation for our friend. I forgot to pick up the dress I wanted to wear Sunday at the dry-cleaners. I bought it for this wedding I went to last month and I want to wear it a few more times before it doesn't fit any more (not a stretch dress). I am so bloated this week I already look like I have a baby belly. Not good at all. Last time, I was able to make due and mostly hold off on maternity clothes until fall, so now I only have 1 pair of maternity shorts. Somehow, I don't think that is going to cut it (even though I'm only due 10 days sooner). I also have to find DS a shirt that says big brother. Cooking has been a challenge this week. So, I've got to figure something out. Nausea has definately been the worst just before bed. SO, my typical plan of putting things in the crockpot after DS goes to bed sort of goes out the window. DH has been great. But it is so tough not to do the things I like to do.

update for yesterday:10/31 NSD,10 NEO/31, $100 in savings. I am going shopping today for some things for my desk. I need to get it organized. One of these days the stuff on top is going to fall on my head and give me more brain damage than I can handle. ;D Since this spending is not budgeted for this month, it will be a spend.

Yesterday was a NSD and a friend of mine came over to work on our businesses! I didn't get a chance to shoot videos but have the first 3 scripted out.
So far today I mowed the back lawn, cut back roses, flipped the compost bin and added water.
Still need to work on the fridge and clean up some things in the kitchen so I plan on staying home until a friend's bday party tonight.

So I'm up to 4/31 NSD, 3/31 CSD (<$5). Thursday I had to pick up some prescriptions and other needed items. Friday was a NSD though, because I stuck firm with myself about not giving into snack temptations. Today should also be NSD if all goes as planned. Yay!

RANT/VENT- But I need an answer-
I'm going to throw this out here because a lot of the folks on this board have had issues with job loss and tight budgets over the past few years:
Do you think less of people who use Food Stamps or WIC? Do you automatcally assume when you see hem in line with their vouchers or cards that they are of a lesser moral/ ethical standard?
I often get rude remarks from other customers- even though my purchases on my FS card are pasta, rice, frozen veggies, eggs, and some canned items. If I want ice cream, meats, milk, etc- it has to come out of my fun money.
None of my friends or acquaintances would say something rude to my face about me using Food Stamps- yet they make assumptions about others in similar situations.
It hurts because it might as well be me they are talking about in a way.

Spent today my mom took me shopping for my birthday and I ended up buying a few other shirts in addition to what she bought me. I also ordered a tablet. It isn't an iPad it was what we could get for the points on our credit card, so it cost us nothing. It is for mini-D when we are in the car for hours. I figure I'll load some educational apps and some games and let him play. We looked at the kids hand held devices and decided that once you bought the different cartridges the cost would be about the same, plus DH and I can use this this as well.
I picked up my first CSA basket today. I got a dozen eggs, leaf lettuce, onions, zucchini, asparagus, broccoli, turnips, beets & onion tops (she said to use them like chives or green onions. I passed the beets off to my parents because I won't eat them at all. But we had the lettuce and broccoli with dinner tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to have an omlette with some of the onion tops and asparagus. I may shred half the zucchini and freeze it to use in baking or pasta sauce later.
SES- I made yogurt last night. It was easy. Though I ended up not using my crockpot. I had booked marked some blog posts about it and did a stovetop one and it only required an hour of time to get to the incubation stage, which I did in my oven overnight. It came out thick and not too tangy, so YEAH!
Miz Bear- I have to admit unless the person in front of me was throwing a fit I don't pay attention to how they are paying. Now I noticed it more when they actually used the "stamps" but now that it is a card, I wouldn't know. To me it doesn't matter, I know there are abuses of the system, but I assume that if someone is using those programs they need the help. Yes I will judge what is in your cart, but I judge everyone's cart.

4 NS, 6 CS, 2 Spend Today should be a CS also. I just need to get a few things from the grocery store. Yesterday was a CS, only money I spent was for a frappe. Treated myself before I started cleaning out the garage. Between that and cleaning and opening the camper on Friday, I'm whooped. I still need to do some regular cleaning and laundry later, but will try to get that done while the Yankees are on. I have to stop by a First Communion party this morning, then go pick up dad to bring him to pick up the full truck. Hoping to just have a fairly relaxing afternoon, probably on the couch with the dogs and the heating pad! Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's here!

Mizbear - like Dakota, i rarely notice how the person in front of me is paying unless they are taking a long time to pay. My only complaint is when news shows show people using food stamps and their cart is filled with expensive name brand stuff. But I think see showed us that is not the norm when she did her food stamp challenge.
