A soldier's job is to kill who the President says to kill and die where the President tells him to die. If he publicly shows contempt for that vocation, I don't see how the military has any choice but to make an example of him.

Ditto that Virgil. In the middle of a tiresome two week stint during a training exercise with sand blowing in your mess kit is one thing. Even later in the shower after everybody has used the hot water is another. But on the internet from back on base with three meals and a cot and showers that have hot water day and night? Not hardly. The best place for him in the Marine Corps is out of it.

The best place for him in the Marine Corps is out of it. I don't think the average citizen understands the unique position we are put in while in uniform. They think we gave up rights, but there has to be a strong chain of command without questioning orders.

Since I served in a combat zone while being in the military, I'm not sure I fit your definition of the "average citizen." However in this case, there are better ways to discipline somebody that doesn't cause lifelong issues from getting a less than honorable discharge. Definitely wasn't smart on his part, but the punishment doesn't fit.
