I rec'd an email today from Disney Destination. The poblems is that neither DH or I signed up for anything. So, is this a scam or what? The weird part is that we JUST started talking about going to Disney in 2012....

Did you do any research on-line? Checking airfares, etc., on a site that has your e-mail address?
It's pretty creepy what they capture. I was on a health-related discussion board last week and got a banner ad for dental health advice for mothers-to-be. I'm 57. Then I realized that I'd recently ordered $200 worth of baby formula as a gift for my niece, who just had a baby, and a couple of heads for my sonic toothbrush.
I gotta delete my cookies again.

I would guess it isn't a scam, I get the same e-mails from them all the time. I am also a Disney addict so I open every one. Do you have a Disney Chase card? Have you ever registered for a user name on their web site? They probably have a cookie on your machine, and knew when you visited their site looking for information. If nothing else, Disney is very efficient at marketing potential customers.

We haven't signed up for anything. We get offers for a Disney credit card that we keep thinking we should sign up for but don't particularly want to open a new card. I have looked for Disney curtains and bedding for my DD but didn't order anything. Plus that was like last month. I'm pulling our credit reports and I'm going to delete cookies. We needed to pull the credit reports anyway so it's not a total waste of time and energy...

One of my coworkers say Disney Destinations IS a valid company.
I wonder if this is more of a virus thing than an actual scam.

I wouldn't signup through anything through an email link personally. I would type in "Disney Destinations" into google and checkout those links.
That said, you might've unknowingly signed up for the service. A lot of places, including forums. have something called "Co-Registration" where they pre-check certain offers that you opt in to.

I get these emails, all because I bought something for my niece at the Disney Store. It's like how I started getting catalogs in the mail a few weeks ago because the retail fairies know that her birthday is in Feb.

I bought her a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse puzzle at Kohl's for Christmas... And DH and I were both goggling Mickey Mouse Clubhouse bedding in Nov/Dec. Ooooh, maybe we were on official Disney sites for that. I know we were looking at eBay and Amazon but it's possible we were looking on disney.com...

Scams aside, I think Disney is a pretty good value. I know people complain that the meals are expensive and what-not, but I wonder what other kinds of vacations those people go on. We've been a couple of times. We went to D-Land and the hotels are reasonable, the entrance fee will keep you entertained a whole day. The meals are what they are. Sure, no dollar-menu there, but still the food is decent and reasonable. Granted, we could drive there, which takes the cost of the vacation way down - but still - I'm pleased with my Disney experience.
Lego-land is a rip-off. Sea World was fun - but the food was pretty retched, and there was no way I could go back for a second day - I felt like we did it ALL. Some of it twice. And there was still a lot of sitting around waiting.

I want to go to Universal to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I'm thinking May, we're going down for my grandmother's 90th.

The last time we went to Disney there was a huge group of people and they were all wearing buttons that said "We are celebrating Alice's birthday." And there is this lady, who had to be 90, in a wheelchair wearing a button that said "Alice" and "It's my birthday!" I don't think she had any clue where she was - and I said to my husband - if I live to be 90, please, let the family go to Disneyland and have a good time.
Maybe your grandma would like to go to Universal too.

See, Disney is the greatest place on earth. I seem to be on an extended Disney kick lately, I have gone to Disney World twice in the past three months, and I live half way across the country. My wife and I broke down and bought annual passes this time and are planning on going back again this spring.
I know it's somewhat expensive, and can be crowded, but I just like it there. I have been on vacations around the world, and have never been treated better than when I am at Disney, a truly stress free vacation (of course my kids hate it there and won't go with me, adding to the stress-freeness).

Yeah, it's pretty easy to buy yourself a URL with Disney in the name and I suspect Disney has a phalanx of lawyers but they can't send out "cease and desist" letters fast enough. It may even be a legitimate travel agency that delivers what they promise, but they're trying to look like the Disney Corporation and they're not.
BTW, I did an Internet search on Disney destinations and did turn up a lot of disney.go URLS (abd.disney.go, disneyworld.disney.go, disneyparks.disney.go, where ABD is Adventures by Disney) so maybe they're legit.

I just saw a story in the local paper about how the vendor who controls email addresses for a bunch of companies, including Best Buy and Disney got hacked and lost millions of addresses. I'm guessing that's my answer to this.
