I was just wondering what ya'al thought about their situation since the disclosure of the bribes in Mexico..... How bad do you think it will hurt them & for how long?

Deleted as I am not sure who should be posting to EE but maybe it was aimed at me.

Such has existed since humans developed elements of inter-tribal trading, sometime early in the BC era of time.

If I didn't think the markets are due for a 10-15% correction, I would be taking this opportunity and adding to my position in WMT.

Yep. I think I learned the phrase sell in May and go away here or at old MSN boards. Yclept if memory serves. May seems to be coming earlier and earlier each year...

There was talk this am about maybe 2,000,000 in fines aside from potential jail time. Does anybody know if thats 2 mil per bribe or 2 mil in total? Man ,I think Siemens got hit with a couple billion over a similar incident between the US and Geman governments.

Wal-Mart will work until they become what K-Mart did I think.
And given the size of their operations, and the iron fist they keep on many of their suppliers as well as the sheer volume they can shovel (which kills small Mom and Pops), even if you hate them you can't really afford not to buy from them.
I personally don't like what they stand for, I don't like how they treat their employees, and I don't like that they have killed all but a few Mom and Pops in my town... But, I shop there, prices are so cheap I can't afford not to.. Same said for many, many people.. Sales + Need + You have to = Profits, and lots of them...
As such, I own the stock, it would IMHO be dumb not to.. Plus, they pay a decent dividend.
I hate them, but it is what it is. Profit is Profit, and yes I know that sounds crazy..

Um..OK? I am not allowed to have my opinion or point of view? The OP asked for "thoughts" about Walmart. I gave mine. I am going to Walmart today. I was also there yesterday. It is my #1 Go To Store. The thread is actually more about what the bribe scandal may do to STOCK PERFORMANCE. not about the store itself. this is about the market, otherwise it would have been posted in EE or maybe even P&M.

Virginian, the first post says (bolding is mine)
how does that make this thread about cutting down small business? and how is it NOT about investing impact?

Seems there is some misunderstanding here. As the original post is on subject (at least as I read it) kadee was musing on how the bribe scandal would impact WalMart's stock price.
"I was just wondering what ya'al thought about their situation since the disclosure of the bribes in Mexico..... How bad do you think it will hurt them & for how long?"
Just do not see how this would be seen as not a "investment" post.
Also I see Shooby has deleted all his posts. So, back to WMT investment discussion.... OK?

Whatever people! I don't know why you can't just take trash talk to your 1000 other threads that mean nothing! Some people tend to sort their thread listing by "new posts" which pulls from all boards. Quite frankly, shooby may not have realized where this thread was. I know I've done that before, thankfully to a much less rude reception. don't you think that a quick "umm....this is IBB, and it's a stock question" would have been a quicker way to get the point across than a borderline personal attack that dragged it out and brought along a few mods too? Just my two cents. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using ProBoards

Moon, I just got back from a quick trip to New York and talked to a Thread manufacturer. He was telling me how Wal-mart has put a lot of small Wholesalers out of business. Wal-mart will only deal with manufactures. They want only the best deal. I told him I have bought his shirts for years, never at Walmart. They last for years!!!
Just a thought, Bruce

WOW folks! Sorry for the confusion. I have been busy & didn't get back here for awhile.
My original thought was WHAT WILL THE WHOLE SCANDAL DO TO WALMART STOCK PRICES & FOR HOW LONG!
But guess what...it is against the law in the US for them to do that!
There is talk about some exc's loosing their jobs...up to & possibly the CEO. Anyone think that may happen? Their cover up sure doesn't look good....even if they get a small fine I think it may still affect some parts of their business for quite awhile.
