Fight and get fined

Ok so we know I don't watch any sports.
I basically only see what's on the news.
what they show on the news is:
when Basketball Players fight - they get fined! and maybe suspended, I think
when Football Players fight - they get fined!
when Baseball players fight - they get fined

so what I don't understand in Hockey - they fight every game

but fighting is not allowed when kids play Hockey for there school or college.
Professional Hockey I see news interviews and TV shows constantly downplay the violence in Hockey and wanting to stop the fighting. And why do they fight any way? Maybe I can see fighting for an illegal hit - but they just fight like boxing!

so I took the suggestion from here - other members here - and went to see a Roller Derby.
I was hmmmm....concerned or was not comfortable being there. maybe I could have been comfortable being there if I wasn't so tall and a fat guy or alone, but I was the only black guy there; that I could see as I checked out my sourroundings. my clothes that I wore and the watch I was wearing, compared to everyone else was a bit more...upscale I guess, like everyone and me was dressed down wearing jeans and t-shirt, but I felt I looked like I had money.
everytime I looked up away from the ring floor there was at least TWO people I saw just staring at me! I didn't make any eye contact the first few times as just kept looking around. but then later on did make eye contact with one guy and then he eventually looked away.
I couldn't really get the rules of the game but there was a lot of pushing and shoving - and all I know about Roller Derby was from the movie I saw with LL years ago. In the movie there is fighting - I think - I only saw it once.
is there fighting in Roller Derby or do they just get to knock down other players? they did a lot of knocking others down.

  I went to a Hockey game last week and No fighting!  What the heck!  They should give me  a refund.
