Inspired by this thread and sick of constantly asking my 9 year old dd to clean her room, only to have everything stuffed in the closet or under her bed I took action! Today I had her take EVERYTHING out of her room (minus her dresser, bed, bookshelf and clothes hanging in closet) out and make a pile on our living room floor. She had the honor of sorting out the mess. I gave her instructions to make organizational piles-including trash and things she no longer wants. It took her three hours but she now has a completely organized and clutter free bedroom! She was not allowed to take anything back into her room unless there was a place for it. I did give her room a wipe down, including the ceiling fan and vacuum. Now, if I could find the motivation to do my bedroom

I am so proud of my self. I clean off my own dresser. This is my "catch all" in my bedroom. It may seem like a 15 minute task , but the crap on it was so high it actually took me close to an hour. I don't know why i keep random things!! It's amazing how good decluttering can make you feel. Next on the list is the "junk drawers" in that dresser!!

azmom: we have been doing something similar lately. In November I emptied everything out of our under stairs storage. We went through every single box and scrap of paper. Narrowed it down to 3 boxes of "memories" and 4 boxes of Christmas. Still want to narrow down more of the Christmas stuff. DH pulled everything out of the cupboards a couple of weeks ago. Got rid of some cookbooks we didn't use, misc. kitchen gadgets, and extra coffee mugs. Waiting for it to be warm again so we can tackle the garage. Unheated garage and high temps in the single digits = an unmotivated Sheila

Is it April yet? I have been cleaning out and organizing and making a pile in our basement for a garage sale. I can't wait to unload this stuff! We got new bedroom furniture this weekend (so excited) so the old stuff is going in the sale as well. Once the sale is done, we will donate the leftovers. It is not coming back in the house.
We need to clean our garage something terrible too. It is so dirty from salt and dirt. Can't wait to hose it down when the weather breaks. Plus, there are probably a few items to set aside for the garage sale.

With me and my help sick I didn't get much organizing done over the weekend, but they have said they will help another weekend they are here- and my mom sweetened the pot for them- all you can eat chinese buffet! The worst part is when I get done my place, I have to do my DM and DGMs and then we should be unpacking the kids and their mom at the new place (I hope).

A big part of my problem is lack of motivation or follow through once I start something. About 4 weeks ago I got so sick of my jammed closet that I took EVERYTHING out of it and piled it on the bed in my spare bedroom. I did sort out all of the "definite get rid of" items and donated them, put some stuff back in the closet, but, there is still a huge pile of clothes on the spare bed that I have to finish going through. I'm like that with everything and it frustrates the hell out of me

I got a little accomplished as far as going through papers- but feel like I am treading water.

Unless, of course, it's clothes hangers; they reproduce in the darkness of closets!

I get motivated and write down everything I want to do. I got a new timer and boxes from work for the garage sale items. I bought a box of 100 garbage bags for the stuff I am going to throw out or take down to my GF's Mt Home to burn. And there they sit, along with my tablet of 10 + pages of what I am going to do. They have been sitting for about a month now. I am better motivated when I have someone here that I can have a conversation with. My cats don't answer me and they only talk when they are hungry. I used to have a system of papers in a bowl but I threw the papers out and cleaned my bowl and put it away, last year. Music doesn't help either. One of these days it will all come together.

3cats- Music keeps me motivated- however this weather kills it for me. I like cleaning during the summer when I can open the windows throw on a tank top and ratty cutoffs and do my thing "bearfoot". Not have to dress for outside weather while working indoors...

I have no motivation right now. I was home with DS yesterday and while he napped I sat on the couch and played Civ. 5 for almost 2 hours instead of doing ANYTHING around the house.

DH and I went through a bunch of stuff in the "tool" area of our basement last night. We will be having a "free" box at the garage sale in April. You never know who might need old light switches, covers, door nobs, etc. I really don't think they are worthy of putting a price on. If no one takes them, we will give them to Habitat for Humanity. Christmas items have been gone through and there is a box for the garage sale. Need to take more boxes home from work today!

Not sure I mentioned this, but I took 2 bins of boys clothes to the resale shop last Friday - I walked out with $64. It was great. I dropped the boxes off, went and got my eyebrows waxed (one luxury I give myself) and went back 45 minutes later to pick up my $ and the clothes they didn't take. They took 90% of the clothes. Easy peasy!

Ok. I have a goal for this weekend.
I currently have the parts for a twin bed plus mattresses propped up in my living room and hallway. The bed is going to be cleaned and set up in DD's room. The existing twin in there, which belongs to my parents, is going back to their house. We're attempting to transition DD from the crib to the twin bed and going nowhere fast. I'm hoping this 2nd "new to us" bed will go over better than the 1st so I don't have to force the issue with DD.

Wisconsin- With one of my nieces, what we had to do was start by putting the mattress and box spring on the floor without the frame. We made up the bed and at bed time, put her in her room with her nightlight and whatnot. No one put her in bed, it was made clear that she could get in on her own. She fussed for all of 15 minutes before climbing in and gettin comfy. Then we had to break her of filling every available spare space in the bigger bed with stuffed animals.... Actually getting some stuff done. Don't have much choice though. I have to get things organized around here and finish going through my stuff still in storage- luckily it's at DGM so there is no bill.

Clothes pulled out Goodwill, trash, store, dresser, closet 9. Laundry (clothes) started

Well, i am trying. SO far i have baked a cake, washed the dishes and cleaned counters. Some laundry is in. I have a small pile of papers to go through. I am thinking of looking in my wardrobe for clothes that fit no more i have put on some weight over the past couple of years. There is a consignment store close by and maybe i can make some money on the clothes.

I must have given you my flu, mizbear. I'm better today, so I took all the trash and recycling to the dumpsters, brought a metal bedframe back with me (ours is bent out of shape), and started planning out what to deep clean before my parents get here on Friday.

We finally got our butts in gear to start decluttering these past few days. Our first chore was to get rid of all of the old towels, blankets, and sheets we had lying around the house, just in case we "needed" them. Anyway, our motivation for getting rid of the towels came by way of discussing some fond memories of our beloved Golden Retriever that passed a year ago. We were laughing about how much work it was to give her a bath, and the clean-up involved afterwards. We dug out her special "bath" towel that we used to dry her, noticed all the old towels just sitting there, unused, and said "LET'S DONATE THESE TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER!" I swear it was meant to be because as we pulled into the shelter parking lot, we saw the "Wish List" on the outside sign that said "WE NEED TOWELS AND BLANKETS, PLEASE". Nothing could be more rewarding to us than decluttering our old stuff and knowing that it was going towards such a worthwhile cause!

I should add that we are now inspired to get rid of all the knicknacks and old clothing that we have, and donate those to our local non-profit thrift shop in the hopes that someone else can find some use for them. Next weekend, we are blocking off a few hours to do this, and our motivation is not only a decluttered house, but helping those who are less fortunate than we are.

NO ONE expected her to get her stubborn on at home about continuing to sleep in her crib. But I DID get the beds re-done. The "old" bedframe is back and my parents house and my Dad's going to try to get over to our house this afternoon to get the extra mattresses to the . AND I stuck my nieces with picking out a ton of pictures and then sticking them in the frames for DD and DS first 12 month picture frame things that MIL bought for us. AND I got them hung on the wall. PLUS the girls are checking their schedules to find a day to help me sort though all the baby crap, when my toddlers aren't around. My SIL's nephew's wife is expecting a boy and they're willing to take all our baby boy stuff. I just have to find it and sort it out and then get it to them. So I'll have "victims" for hand-me-downs for both the kids now. Woohoo!

I have an appointment on Wed at the consignment store. I was told i need to have at least 10 spring items, and not more than 25. Its 50/50 on the money. I have found about 12 things, they said it can be shoes or bags aswell. So i will go along and it will free up a small amount of space in my wardrobe ( which is the point). The clothes i have are so nice, but will never fit me again, i was 135lbs 5 years ago, now about 155lbs! If they sell i will post what i make. I have to wait for a buyer though.
