Most of you know I am a music buff and do a bit of competing. This year the competition I enter that has a demo requirement has given the option of entering by mp3, or facebook/youtube shot. I really don't want to have to pay $120/hr to use a studio or worse yet- have my demo not turn out properly and therefore not get accepted like last year. I have been told I really have a chance to do well at this competition.
Any ideas?
By the way- I'm probably singing "My Give a Damn's Busted"

Are you near a university or college with a music program? Perhaps you could arrange to use one of their sound proof practice rooms for little or no cost.

The closest universities are an hour away- but I am looking into that. Someone suggested I try converting the wma file that my sound recorder on the computer makes to an mp3- but I would have no clue- however I do have a digital recorder that records in mp3. I think my best bet may be to have someone video me and post to FB- but I really don't want everyone seeing how fat I am- plus I want them to make a judgment based on my voice.

Try downloading it and record yourself in a quiet room. You can then download free audio converter programs to convert the recorded WAV file to whatever format is required - MP3 is the smallest size, then WMA is a little bigger, but it depends on the bitrate . It's easy nowadays, you just tell the program where the WAV file is and what format and bit rate you need it to be converted to and where it should be dropped. HTH

If you have a WAV file that you are satisfied with and need help converting it, send me a PM. Good luck.

You should be aware that if you aren't using a studio mike or you're recording in a typical indoor environment, you'll lose quite a bit of voice quality.

I have an ex-boyfriend who has an in-home studio who would probably make the demo for me- but I don't like his rates Virgil- Yeah, luckily my laptop is one of those Acer entertainment jobs and I have good mikes. One of these days I will have a recording setup at home with screens and everything though. It is better than my old cassette tape days though...
