I was on Facebook this afternoon and a gradeschool friend of mine posted that she had two medical bills the insurance company denied. She said "Sometimes I wonder if life is worth living". Her younger child had very serious health problems when she was born. She had a feeding tube for years...was removed a few years ago. Child was ADD/ADHD and is Bi-Polar. So I am sure her daily life is stressful to say the least. I think most of her immediate family is gone.
I responded that Life was always worth living and her kids needed her. Should I do more? I have not seen or talked to her in years.
PS: I am a facebook novice. I have an account and a pretty large group of "friends" which I credit to the above person b/c she is friends with just about everyone in our HS class so I keep getting friend requests...but I really don't know how to use facebook. Created the account to keep and eye on my kids which has been pretty unsuccessful.

BTW: I am taking this so seriously b/c we lost a relative and a friend of one of my kids to Suicide in the past year. I don't want to overlook anything that I could have prevented.

A friend on FB, someone who i haven't seen in years, but went to school with had a series of posts about her life and bad things that were happening. Then, she posted a "goodbye to everyone" kind of note. I took that as a suicide note and so did some others. I emailed another friend whom i know had "real life" contact with her other than FB and she called someone who knew her who lived in her area as she lives in a different state. Anyway, she wound up being emergently hospitalized for her suicidal thoughts and mental health issues. But, her note was more of a "goodbye right now" kind of thing where i felt action was urgent. And, i have lost family and friends to suicide as well. It is a terrible thing.

This board group stepped in when Dr. Pig had a friend who made alarming comments in an e-mail. He contacted a mutual friend who arrived in time and got the appropriate help. I tried to tell a relative that a mutual friend had not had sufficient counseling after an incident then sure enough a couple of weeks later this person was rescued, did live, and is getting the thorough testing and help. I was told the soul and awareness of the person who dies by their own hand ends up in white noise static place forever with no redemption. not.

Cocoa - I would err on the safe side and send her a private email asking her if she needs to talk. She could just be having a bad day or she could feel lost. A friend offering to listen would make a difference if she is at rock bottom. That's what I would do. Art - I remember that! I just mentioned that I miss Pig on tractor's thread. I hope he is reading to know we still think of him.

And if you do follow POM's suggestion and send an email, ask your FB friend for her phone # as well - if you're able to call her, she'll know that you care and may be able to open up a bit and talk - when it's more person-to-person & private.

Reach out again on a personal level, please.
I agree with those who've already said the same.. A listening ear can literally save a life. Please lend yourself again, Cocoa Bean..
