I don't know if this is the right place for this thread, but I really need some help. I totally understand if it needs to be moved.
My mom got one of the fake virus thingies on her computer that is trying to sell some anti-virus program and I can't get rid of it.
It is called Windows Activity Debugger. I can find the file but it won't allow me to delete it as long as the program is running and I can't get it to stop running.
Anyway, before she called me she tried to do a system restore and somehow restored it to a point two hours previously (not far enough back obviously). Now I can't do a system restore to a time before this thing showed up.
Can someone tell me how to get rid of it or do we need to call a professional? Obviously, I'm not a tekky. I sincerely appreciate any help anyone can give me.

What is your moms internet coverage per month ? I'm trying to figure out her speed. How long has this program been running ?

It's only been running since this morning. She had some church kids over last night and evidently one of them clicked into something they shouldn't have. And I don't know what you mean by internet coverage per month.

Toughtimes' suggestion should fix the problem. If not, I'll show you how to go about disabling start-up applications and TSRs manually.

GEL there are tons of how to manually remove this on Google. Just type in the name Windows Activity Debugger, and find one that you can understand. Some are more techy than others. I just URLed the first one, but go with what feels right to you GEL.

I'll do that, Sug. The problem is, when I'm over at Mom's, this thing kicks you right out of the internet. I'm going to have to write it all down and take it with me! That's assuming I understand any of the terminology!

Thanks, POM. My mom loves her internet. She had let her virus protection expire so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I uninstalled her McAfee (that was expired anyway) and was able to download Microsoft Security Essentials, but this stupid thing stops me from running a scan. I get so frustrated because it's something I'm just not good at.
