Basically this is the program, you do each exercise for 5 sets, each set you use enough weight so you can do a max of 5 reps
workout A Squat Bench Press Barbell row
workout b Squat SHoulder press deadlift
week(wk) 1 you would do Workout A one day, rest a day, than do Workout B, rest a day then do workout A and rest 2 days
wk 2 you would do workout B one day, rest a day, than do workout A, rest a day, than do workout B rest 2 days
Wk3=WK1
Wk4= wk2
thoughts on if this is effective? (no isolation exercises, squatting each session) I need to try something new and thinking to give this a shot

i started the strong lifts program once but did not continue it...i've had surgery on my right knee twice and also have a touch of arthritis in both knees so squats and i don't mix well... so i stick with my own version of the body-for life routine...

So you will be doing the 5 X 5 program consisting only of the major lifts.
Most people I know that have done it speaks volume of it. They all noticed an increase in their lifts and strengths.
Good luck!

Good luck! thanks, but now I wonder what will happen to my other lifts like barbell curls, pull ups, upright rows, etc.....so I kinda fell back into my old routine (not running as much or as hard though).......I may yet try the stronglifts in the future

What is your current routine?

Look like a pretty good one. Why did you want to change it up?
Lol about the dog, mine does the same. We went on a hike and because of him took us 3 times more time and he got tired so I had to carry him for the last hour.

Look like a pretty good one. Why did you want to change it up? Lol about the dog, mine does the same. We went on a hike and because of him took us 3 times more time and he got tired so I had to carry him for the last hour. too bad I can't carry my dog (70 lbs) as easily- lol I changed it up because (that's a long story) I did some screwy things recently.....all was well but then I decided I was going to "bulk up" in the winter....so I stopped cardio and hit weights 3 days a week (back chest 1 day, shoulder, bi, tri and forearms another day, and legs and abs on the last workout (days off in between)).....I blew up like a balloon by the time Dec rolled around....my body fat % stayed the same, but my stomach got big (at least according to the dude at the gym who measured me...now I wonder about him saying my body fat was the same % the whole time my muffin top was forming).... anyway in Jan I decided to turn back on the cardio and the way above routine (I had gained 20lb "bulking up"---and I am a smaller dude so I got carried away with the mags that say "put on 10 lbs of muscle o whatever....) anyway after doing soem intense crazy trng (losing weight, trng for a monster event (pullups, legups, sprinting w/ 175lbs for 70 meters, running 4.6 miles) and trying to mainatin all my lifts) I am down 15 lbs, but I notice some over training effect, so I was going to change it up to strong lifts......but then I wanted to go back to my old habits / routine......I took 2 weeks off and went back to my old routine, I can't do as much and deliberately I am going slow (I don't even use my ipod yet so this way I don't go to hard) also started eating more...I think that was part of my problem too see, more than you ever wanted to know thoughts/ does that makes sense? (also are you going to update your diet thread?
